If a coach can scout a team based on the stats kept by a high school, then that guy needs to go straight to the professional coaching ranks, he's got one **** of a method to figuring out team weaknesses.

I can promise you that the teams in this area in football and basketball
Need more than stats and practice time..coaches are reduced to being the master chef at Burger King by delusional parents and fans

Hawki I agree with you very much that college coaches do not use max preps to recruit. The scouting report part gets you a great big come on man. A coach cannot get any decent scouting report from raw numbers. Coaches that do their job either go scout in person or exchange video with other coaches. A true scouting report involves more than how many someone scores but rather how they do it. For arguments sake, we will file that one with other weak excuses that have been and will be offered.

I don't blame any basketball coach for not putting in their stats --- that is an extremely easy way to scout your team!!

For those that believe college basketball coaches look at stats to recruit a player-- you are out of your mind!!

Colonel, thank you for pointing out that entering stats is not required. Having practice is actually not required either, but good coaches do it. When you sign up to be a coach, you know what the pay is and if that is what you do it for you have a serious problem. Being a head coach is about running a program and doing what is best for that program and its players. If the stats are not being kept I would really find that amazing. If they are not being entered then that is selfishness. If you run your program the right way, and reach out to people to help you they will do it. Funny that the school I support can find the people to do it and it is one of the smallest schools in the conference. This discussion happens every year, and the excuses are always there. They are just that excuses. In all aspects of life, there are requirements and non requirements. You don't achieve success by doing what you have to do. You achieve success by doing what you should do. If you were referring to me needing to volunteer my time, my school doesn't have a problem. We do things the right way, and I don't think you would want to compare the hours you volunteer for your school against mine.

The stars are not required by the NCHSAA. The scores are required for seeding purposes for the end of year tournaments. My suggestion would be to volunteer to keep them. This is not a college or pro event. You pay 5 dollars and feel that you can run around and demand whatever. It doesn't work like that. A little more support and less complaining would help in Wilkes County. It is no wonder the place has trouble finding coaches that are certified teachers. People want more and more and more from the coaches...they get paid crumbs and have to put up with helicopter parents and in Wilkes much more. Kudos to the coaches in Wilkes..you deserve it and more. For those complaining go and volunteer your time. That would solve everything....

Wow, if community support has gotten that bad at some of our local schools, that might help explain why some of the programs are struggling as bad as they are. If coaches are having to coach their teams without having statistics from their games, then they are working at a huge competitive disadvantage, and not knowing the real truth about the performance of their players. Just hard for me to believe that those volunteers are not out there if they were asked. Heck if nothing else, the stats can be taken from game film the next day.

You can barely find people that want to keep the scorebooks, let alone someone willing to volunteer 20+ long evenings to keep down each shot taken, rebound, block, steal, etc.

I would love to see more coaches make those stats available online as well, but I can see why it doesn't happen.

This has always bothered me. I just dont understand it either. Kids out there working their tail off every day, and cant even get their production posted on maxpreps. Maybe it is a bigger deal than I think, but I still think it is a shame. No excuse.

I wouldn't mind seeing the team stats this is a team sport not individual sport.

It simply frustrates me how only three coaches for the conference get their teams stats entered into Maxpreps. I don't know if their too lazy to take the time, or just aren't smart enough? Basketball is a numbers game. That's a big part of enjoying the season. Keeping up with the leaders in conference. I guess they figure if they put nothing on, it will be easier to fix any "MISTAKES" that might of have been made to the book, come conference awards??????
