I never said that 59 could not be used. Sure it can. The problem is most 59 wire that is in houses these days is old, cheap, customer installed or all of the above and it will cause problems...believe me. RG-6 in general carries signal stronger and further than 59.

rg-59 with solid silver center , not copper, its the best ever made, way better than 6 because the stinger is solid silver, cable companies use it in there equipment and communications company use it over 6 . Dont belive me research it !

All coax is shielded. Actually coax has two shields, the foil layer and the braid. Be it RG 59, RG 6, RG 11, or mini coax with 23awg or 25awg cores. RG59 is capable of carrying digital signal. Just not as far as RG6. BTW, RG6 quad has 4 shields; two foils and two braids. This allows it to carry a signal further than standard RG6.

But, there is high quality RG59 with solid O2 free copper, that can carry higher bandwidth than standard RG6Quad. You can send a HD satellite signal across it around 200 feet without any issues. RG6 will only get you about 100 feet.

RG 59 is an issue. RG 6 is shielded and should be used. I recommend you add wire maintenance to you service wait a week and call it in

No, RG-59 is not always the problem just like the box is not always the problem. There are so many factors that could cause the issue, but 59 wire has more loss than 6 wire and usually (not always) is older.

RG-59 is not as big of a problem as the cable company tries to tell people. But yes, it could be an issue.

Sounds to me like it is a signal issue. If it is a smaller cable like rg-59 then that could be the problem but it is really best to call the cable company and let them check it.

New cable TV services like On Demand, Internet, and just some of the HD receivers require two way communication. This means they have to receive their signal, but they also have to send information back to the cable company for authorizations and other things. Make sure all splitters and amplifiers/boosters are bi-directional compatible. It really is best to get them from the cable company to make sure they are compatible with their service.

The best thing really is to have the cable company come out and fix the problem. They can put a meter on the line to measure the signal strength and usually immediately know what the problem is. You could waste hours (or days in your case) screwing around with it, ultimately be an issue out at the road at one of their switches. It could be a bad box that isnt authorized properly. It could be a bad end that you or some other non-cable employee put on. A lot of people buy those old style crimp tools to make their own wires but dont realize they can cause weak grounds.

Im not a fan of most cable company techs, but they are going to do a better and faster job than any DIY'er.

splitters go bad (even a single connection on a multiple connection splitter )
amplifiers go bad same as splitters, cheap coaxial cable can cause problems
(walmart/kmart ect ect $7.00 or so for 50')

On demand works on other two tvs and they are hooked to the amplifier too. The phone and internet work. This room has given me problems off and on for awhile. It used to tile and that stopped and the on demand would work occasionally. Now it isn't working at all. Sometimes if you put it on a channel above100 it will say this channel will be available shortly and then after about ten minutes the channel will come in. Is there anything I can buy to directly hook into this box or line to amplifiy? The other amplifier is in the basement, but could I buy anything to just hook into this particular room?

Also please check and make sure the cable coming in goes to the in on the box or ondemand will not work.

alsoitcould be overdrive withe the signal. it takes more or less signal when hot.they need to check the main line

On Demand takes a certain amount of upstream and downstream signal to work. Is the amplifier boosting all the tvs and if so does on demand work on them. If on demand is not working on the other tvs then it could be a bad amp or something else. The error code you are getting is probably attributed to bad signal. If you have internet or telephone and it is working then you have signal coming into the house but it could be too low to make it thru all the splits. I would call charter and tell the tech the situation and beg not to be charged.

Thank you. I do have an amplifier. I thought it was called a signal booster. I don't know the terminology very good. The worker who put in the amplifier a few years ago said that the tv in the room the on demand doesn't work in is the last outlet on the loop so the signal is weaker. The funny thing is that it will work sometimes and sometimes it doesn't. It hasn't worked in a couple of months. I think it has to do with an extender. The tv is too far from the wall outlet. The wall outlet has a wire with a prong that screws into the back of tv or cable box but since the box is too far away I had to put a little female splitter or extender on one side of a long cable and then screwed the long cable into the back of the cable box. Like I said it has worked at some points but now is not working. When I hit the on demad button it comes up with an error code and says e3104 try again in five minutes.

When it starts getting hot, the signal strength gets a little worse which may be adding to your problems. Sounds like from what your saying that you have too many splits and if possible the wires need to go back to one place. The splitter configuration is very important. Internet line/telephone modem line goes on first split then Cable box lines on next splitter. If you have a long feeder line to your house and many tvs you will need an amplifier. Charter will not charge you for amplifier if you have two or more services by the way. I would just call them and let them come look and they probably will not charge you unless it takes a lot of time to fix.

Make sure the splitter is in the 2000 mh range ? If possible only split the line outside and only once.

I am trying to fix an On Demand problem I am having. The error code says "Initializing 2104 wait five minutes and try again". This has been going on for awhile and I really don't want to pay for a service call if I can fix it. I have called and had a signal sent to reset the box and that doesn't work. I had a problem a few months ago with this box having tiling in the picture and I changed the cable wire to a shorter one and took out an unneeded splitter. I have to use an extender or splitter (i'm not sure what you call it) at the wall because the cable is not long enough. That fixed the tiling problem but then this new problem for awhile but then this problem started and it won't even go to on demand. I changed boxes and it's not the box. I changed cables so it's not the cable. I think there are too many splits on the cable in the house and this room must be the last stop on the splitting because when we first moved in we were getting tiling terrible in two rooms. Charter brought out a signal booster a few years ago to try to fix that problem and it seemed to for awhile. Is there anything I can do to boost it to this particular room? Could I do anything at the booster box that would help? Any suggestions that I haven't already tried.
