The true answer is. windows xp 32 bit edition only addresses 3.25 gigs, it doesn't know any more addresses because of the 32 bit processor.thats why it only can write to the 3.2 gigs of addresses
like back when hard drives were getting bigger. windows would only see a little over 32 gigs.
they actually had a jumper on some old hard drives to limit to the 32 gigs. but same principal

Rg, you are talking about a harddrive, the OP is talking about RAM

Technically, while what RG is true, if you paint a blue widget with red paint, it will be....red.

Formatted, a drive holds less data. And they have to be formatted in order to work (they usually come from the factory formatted in FAT).

It's true for all drives. The computer I'm working on has a 1 terabyte drive. Formatted in NTFS, it's showing-up as 931 gigabytes. This is perfectly normal.

With a 32 bit OS, that is all you will show.

Yes - Enjoy your evening.

That's all you'll get to show with the OS. Nope, no way around it.

I updated my older Intel motherboard with a 946 chip set to 4 gig of memory. I have noticed that the machine is only recognizing 3.25 gig. I'm running XP Pro 32bit edition. Suggestions?
