Suddreth likes to feel important. I saw him do an inspection once that was going fine until his trainee corrected him on something in front of the building owner. From there on, everything he came across failed.

That explains all the concern. Almost as good as the environmental health boys.

You mean fire marshall bill was sober and came out. Must have been before drinking time.

I believe the whole event was blown out of proportion by Frontier Energy, Miller Pipeline and the fire marshal. The pipe was not breached. It had a scratch on it about four inches long and not deep enough to show the steel. There is a lot more going on than meets the eye.

They called miller and they told them not to waste a stamp. They wont pay for stupidity.

That would be $16,0000. A small amount of money on a project of this scope. Send the bill to Miller Insurance. They have the JRV public liability policy.

So if they are being fined the gas line must have been marked and the idiots dug into it anyway. Vannoy has some real talent on those dozers and hoes.

I heard today that the contractor faces a $1000 dollar an hour fine from the state for every hour the road was close.

One method of hot tapping gas lines

My dad used to weld gas tanks at his repair shop. He would put a hose to the tank from the exhaust pipe of a running car and go to it. It was a good way to clear out the loafers, they would always take off when he started to weld a gas tank.

Welding on a live gas line? I wonder what their life insurance costs

Called "hot tapping" very common on petroleum and natural gas transmission lines.

The pipe that was damaged was in the section where the line was being relocated for the new lane.

The new line was already in place and ready to be put into service. This just accelerated what was going to be done anyway.

The old line will be abandoned in place as soon as the bypass is completed. Hopefully in the next few hours.

At least they didn't blame it on a truck driver

You got a point fins---the utility marking company marked the gas line in the wrong place. Not the first time that has happened.

When I worked for Wright Bros. on 421 I had to dig a channel change ditch down on old 60 close to Browns farm rd. The phone company said there were no lines buried in the area. I started at the creek and dug the new channel across the field to old 60. I climbed up on the rd. and the first bucket full of dirt from the shoulder pulled out a Fiber optic line that was around 3/4 to 1 inch in Dia. and a copper line twice that size. Needless to say it didn't take southern bell long to send an army of trucks and people to replace those two lines.

From what I was told the line didn't get cut or broke open however the steal pipe did suffer some damage and the gas company declared it in emergency. The pipe line contractor moved equipment to the spot to dig up the line so that welders could cut out the damage section and weld in a patch. One thing I found interesting is that they do this on a live line full of gas at over 600 PSI
