Ambulance contract to be extended

I happened to drive by Sullivan's house in Watauga today. It's a nice place. Even had a pony out front for the kid. I don't blame him for wanting to remove the distance requirement from his contract.

Give that man a cigar. Go for two with the landing strip.

Who cares where the owner of the Ambulance Service lives? Certainly not the county manager who lives in Caldwell County.

Because they are too dumb to figure out that changing providers very 4 years would end up driving the price up, because no one will want the contract if they think tthey won't have any longevity.

its good to see Craig get the extension, he operates a class act service, and he operates very fairly at least he dont try to buy his contract off with commissioners and county employees. i dont see why sands and rhodes has a problem with extending the contract, the previous provider had the service for 20 years

I to can see the need for a unit in the northwest end of the county. That is a rather long haul from West Jefferson.

It was a done deal weeks ago. Tuesday was just a pony and dog show for the rubes. Sands did see my point on the call volume increase and the possible need to place a unit in the northwest end of the county. They could have put a provision in for that but were too busy beating their chests.

How do they force Sullivan to adhere to a mileage limit and the county manager lives in another county?

Sullivan can show all the rental contracts he wants. His home is in Watauga county and its way more then the 25 mile limit in the contract. If the commissioners weren't going to enforce the contract why put the mileage in to begin with. No wonder he wants it out.

Agreed

It costs a lot to switch and set up a new provider. Rebidding every 4 years would likely end up costing the county more than saving. Guaranteeing a provider a long term contract, short of poor performance or violating certain requirements, should provide better service for the county.

Why try to fix it, if it's not broke? Sullivan seems to be handling things rather well. Haven't really heard any complaints from anyone..

It's great for Sullivan. not so good for anyone else that wanted to bid on the service. Why not just extend it 12 years or 20 years instead of 4? He does a good job but there are others that could do it to.

I thank Sullivan could show a rental agreement for a home in the 25 mile requirement area. Hey we have a County Commissioner who pretty much runs the Rhodes back and forth to the beach where he has a home, the residency requirement may be met in many ways,

One of the negatives I see in this is the four lane is to be completed in less than four years. Will growth exceed the capability of the service running three units? I see he wants the elimination of living within 25 miles. Want to bet he has never lived within the 25 miles?

4% annual increase is considered a standard cost of living bump. So they will continue at a fixed rate for four more years, then get one small 4% bump, and stay locked in for 4 more years. Seems like a deal for the county.
