This whole situation with Ms F is completly out of control for her self serving needs. She is doing more harm than good in our county, there are so many people and non profits in our county doing their best to improve animal welfare and she is setting everything back with her tactics. Enough is enough!

Please know that we too are animal lovers. Also know that there is more to the story. I agree the dogs' living conditions in the video are not close to those of my house living Matlipoo and Morkie. Animal Control investigated the case just as soon as they received the complaint, which is what they are supposed to do. The animals looked well fed (notice they are not skin and bones in the video), but Animal Control informed the owner the pens looked terrible. The owner admitted that he had gotten behind on maintenance of the pens due to the recent rains and that he kept straw and cedar shavings at his home just for that purpose. He put down straw to cover the mud and placed cedar shavings in the dog houses. They had food and water. The owner basically did what Animal Control asked him to do. The animals living conditions are much improved and our Animal Control officers will continue to monitor the animals situation. Have no doubt, we prosecute people that purposely abuse animals, but sometimes people make mistakes, and we try to allow them to fix their mistakes. In the past, we have had very good pet owners in our county to unknowingly place their dog houses in the flood plain. We had to help those owners move their dogs when the river started overflowing. That was not smart, it violated our ordinance, but it didn't rise to the level of abuse. Our animal ordinance is actually pretty strong and gives Animal Control a lot of authority to determine what is and what is not abuse. We try very hard to investigate every animal complaint we receive, to prosecute those that need it, and monitor those that don't. I spoke with the Humane Society yesterday and they are aware of this situation and expressed no issues with our response. We are on good terms with them, as we designate our animal taxes for a low cost spay and neuter program, and I'm sure we will have some discussions with them in the near future about our animal ordinance. Please feel free to forward to me any suggestions that you have regarding suggested changes to the ordinance. I hope this helps keep you informed.
