CooperFarms (view profile) | Forever, where did you watch the parade from? South end of town toward ingles or north toward the ford dealership?
|
I actually didn't go, I was just speaking in general. My wife took my youngest daughter, but my oldest had no interest in going.

We had a little parade every New Year's, called the tournament of roses Parade
The first time I was old enough to drive a car to it, was the last time I ever went.
Parade itself was quite spectacular. But you're going to has to do with all the traffic, fuggedaboutit.

I choose not to go to parades or any other events where large groups of people and families gather to have a good time. It is so Old School. I would rather stay at home with a good book and a good bottle of Scotch.

I think that parades in general are quaint, but obsolete. People don't come out to them like they used to, and kids don't get excited about them like they did 20 or 30 years ago.
They do have value, though. They give the volunteers a chance to feel appreciated, and the towns a chance to show off the new equipment they've bought with tax money. And it does give a small boost to the local economy, bringing people out that then go eat or go shopping afterwards that would have otherwise stayed at home.

Parades are surely a way for the community to get together. They put smiles on the little ones faces and even the adults that are still young at heart. And then there is the Annual Fire Prevention Parades, that's gives the volunteers a chance to get away for a bit from the usual stress of the duties ask of them. while at the same time reminding the communities that fire prevention is something that should always be on their minds. So basically it's a win win situation for all involved. The volunteers get some time to enjoy themselves while swapping ideas with other departments as well as getting a chance to see a kids faces light up from seeing the flashing lights, and hearing the blasting sirens and horns...Whether everyone agrees on this or not, it's just my opinion...

Why would you go to a parade if you "don't like parades"

Beauty I said the same thing 2 different ways in my 2 most recent posts about the 2014 Christmas Parade and Parades in general. I'm no bad apple. I do have a realistic view.
