Well since Rose and Richardson have wives that work in the school system I'd say the request stands a good chance of passing.

Rose looks lost. I think he has gotten in over his head.

Someone needs to tell Rose that siding with those other two idiots is going to kill any hope he has of becoming sheriff.

What's even more shameful is that if the county is aware of the money issues and have not asked for an audit then the board members and the manager are as complicit as the person who took the money.

Basket is right, a hose jockey board should be made up of citizens of the fire district with only a couple of hose jockeys and not retired ones either.
Its a shame the good ole boys club has to have oversight and laws to keep them honest.

We have been through this on here before. Any time that anyone is handling money that is not their own, it only makes good business and ethical sense to have an annual or even semi annual audit performed by an impartial unrelated outside source. OK to trust the organization's treasurer, but verify what is happening. And the Mouth Breathers should have been demanding it of the FDs throughout the County.

If I remember correctly form what a fireman in watauga told me, one of the requirements when they implemented a fire tax was that the boards must have home owners on them. Seems like a logical move, along with regular audits. There have been enough cases of embezzling and questionable spending in recent past that it's unbelieve the audits aren't done.

The county should be requiring those audits each year instead of just handing out money like a loan shark. That fleetwood board is a recipe for disaster. Now no wonder there may be some sticky fingers.

Depends on the department - ours for instance is made of both community members and firemen. Fleetwood's however is made up entirely of firemen (or former firemen) of the department.

Who do the boards consist of? Are they only hose jockeys? Or do any home owners in the district sit on the boards?

My department has never been audited by Ashe County so I doubt other departments have either.

Well farmer you and I both know that screams for a reason to look. My next question is where are the audits that are required when you receive tax payer money?
Maybe the term sticky fingers is the term of the day at the fleetwood fire house.

Dog, I've heard some things about missing funds but that bunch won't even let members who are not on their board take a look at the books, let alone homeowners or anyone else.

factsoflife (view profile) | Fire2, no I'm not a Fleetwood fireman, and not connected with any emergency service agency, I just quotes the info that I found in reading the commissioner minutes, just like any situation there are two sides to all of them. The commissioners probably need to conact each property owner in ths area and let those propert owners determine who they want to serve them.
|
Yes there are 2 sides to every story with fleetwoods being the wrong one. You go find one person that wants to be in a fire district that is more than 6.2 miles away and have a 10 iso rating with homeowners insurance rates out the top and I will kiss your *** in front of the post office and give you 2 weeks to draw a crowd. You fleetwood hose jockeys may as well give up on your ignorant quest of trying to screw the citizens in the lower end of the county. I'd like to hear if there has ever been any money missing from the fleetwood fire house.

You must not have read the same minutes I read factsoflife aka Fleetwood fireman. The minutes don't reflect how long each speaker took and they clearly state that the Deep gap fire chief mark Parsons was presnt to explain the move.

This is pretty sad. Where was our other county commissioner during the meeting? Based on the article only 4 were present, haven't watched video.
It is very shady how things are being run. All commissioners should be receiving the same information, it appears though that most of these things are being done as back room deals, with little daylight present.

To be fair, anyone why would anyone with half a brain run for a local office? that leaves us with the mouth breathers looking for an ego trip that sign up to run for local offices. We get moron commissioners that don't undersand the rule of 3 and don't care if they violate its intent as long as they stay technically legal, a register of deeds that thinks not spending all of her allotted budget for the year means she made a profit, and a sheriff that sold out the dignity of the county for roughly $40,000. Someone tell me how he didn't Fire Hopkins when it was documented on TV that he was too lazy to arrest a drunk driver?
