Lack of funding. I'm think the health department was losing their butts off on dentistry?

I have to say something here. . He had a job as a supervisor then he got laid off . He found a decent job again. Then he had three massive strokes back in April of 2014. I am not ashamed to say our children are on Medicaid . My point is people need it bad now days. This makes his third job loss due to plants closing and his sudden illness. There are a few who need to work and there are some who need the help. Some people need to take that into account before they put other people down. The market place is a joke . I know because we got told for family insurance it would cost us 900 a month. So if my kids can get help I am all for it and other children. I am not here for a word fight. Just saying how I feel. I just hate the put downs on welfare people.

This is the list of Dentists listed by NCDMA as accepting Medicaid. These folks may not be accepting new Medicaid, but you can call and find out.

You don't suppose Cooper has fallen into the mindset of the fearsome four that have became absent from GA?

Cooper, I can not believe that you would advocate denying health care to a child. Maybe the parent(s) are slackers and maybe they are struggling, working hard and just trying to hang on to their home. Either way, I do not mind paying taxes to take care of a child.

Well it's not a debatable issue as far as I am concerned, when there is a need we fill it due to human compassion and the fact that there are people of all walks of life who will at some point be one of the two; either advantaged or disadvantaged. I do not create these programs, but I am grateful that educated people have taken Sociology and have compassion so that they understand why programs like this are needed. I don't argue and I will not start on here, You just don't need to jump to conclusions until your faced with them. I guess I will leave it at that before wtf starts crying like a baby because of my bad grammer. Good luck.

Our county General Fund budget is around 34 million dollars. WE GIVE AWAY 62 millon to people on welfare. Almost twice the amount it takes to run the whole county. People need to wake up and look at the numbers.

Here's an article from the local paper :
According to Weaver, the Department of Social Services has a large and complex budget of approximately $62 million. Weaver said DSS translates the funding and reimbursement rates into line items for the board of commissioners to review during their budget discussions.
"Our budget is very complex, and it doesn't look like anything you're used to seeing," Weaver said.
According to Weaver, the U.S. federal government sends reimbursements to the county of approximately 66 percent of the $62 million budget.
The state of North Carolina reimburses approximately 26 percent of the total budget. Ashe County is only responsible for 8 percent of the $62 million budget, or $3.9 million.
Read this again "our part" is only $3.9 million. That is the problem - OUR part is in fact $62 million.
If DELTA wants to do something productive, she needs to write programs to "Get people off welfare instead of ON welfare"

I get where cooper is coming from, there is a lot of abuse of our entitlement systems. There are also a lot of folks that are working and cannot makes ends meet here in the county, that still qualify for Medicaid. I feel for those folks. NC cut funding to its Medicaid program, so it is harder to get. Having said that, I helped a friend call around for a Pediatric Dental patient. We couldn't find a dentist here in Ashe that takes medicaid for pediatrics. Sadly, Boone was the closest and they were not accepting new patients.

Well Mr or Mrs Cooperfarms. Not sure which one you are. Regarding your comment to the young lady. First of all not knowing her situation clearly states that your a person whom is driven by their conscious rather than facts. You see you are letting your assumptions drive your assurance. However, here are the facts. Most people are at work by 7:00 in the morning. You were on goashe at 8:29 A.M posting commits to someone regarding your opinion and stating how you have a job. Ok if you will. try to understand that in-order for someone to have a job they must first be hired. Not everyone is obviously as lucky as you right now,but be careful you may find yourself on the other side of the fence soon. That's why educated people like me designs the programs...... Just saying. Many people need this in some areas depending on their circumstance and being able to just say "get a job and work" is narcissistic and only stating ":I don't care about anyone, but myself " That is a fact as well.

How do you know that she isn't working? Or doesn't have a special needs child that qualifies?

Or even better - try getting a job and lifting yourself up and out of poverty.
The rest of us are paying for our children to go to the dentist - and paying - thru our taxes - for yours.
If you can afford to be spending time online or driving your kids two hours you could be working.
Just saying

I would imagine that the grant funding for the dentist has expired. Medicaid does not compensate the provider enough to operate a clinic if the only patients they see are Medicaid. Before you get your Medicaid voucher to drive out of town, I'd call the dental offices and check to see if they are accepting new patients before you just blindly accept what you heard.

We received a letter informing us that the Appalachian District Health Department is closing their pediatric dental clinic. We have also learned that no where here in Ashe county is accpting pediatric medicaid patients. How do they expect people with low income to drive an hour to two hours to a dentist. So why are they closing?
