DSS Board

As far as I can tell, option one is the only option available to them at this point without a major upheaval and a lot of money poured out to meet someone's whim.

From what I've seen in the articles and watching the meetings, I don't think they are aware of this rule

Does anyone know which of the three options the county thinking about using for the DSS control? State allows three options. Seems the county's' that have chosen to change, have used different options.

I thought with an all Republican board you might see some unity and progress. Not so. There are too many personal agendas and little doing the business of the people. Throw them all out starting with the little chairman.

If we want to get rid of poe, and the three stooges close your eyes and vote in 3 democrats.

Sexton has hated Weaver since then.

Sexton could not do the job when he worked for DSS years ago and he wasn't the Director. He'****ed Weaver since then. Poe hates Weaver because Weaver made Poe look stupid when Poe was a Commissioner. Yearick does not like the fact that Weaver, who has been at DSS over three decades, earns more than he does.

Social Services .... more like Socialist Services! Just wait. When these F@(k holes "take over" DSS Yearick's butt buddy is going to fall in line and do as his masters dictate. The line of bums and baby makers will triple in size when it's discovered there's free money and no one to stop the bleeding. Most people already lie to "gets theirs' ... just wait until there's no filter.

This is what Sexton's linkedin page says:

"Since I stopped working in 11/11 I have been catching up on all the tasks at home that I neglected for a long time. Cleared some property, done the garden thing, working on redoing all the woodwork inside the house, had new windows installed, painted the barn-apple house-garage-toilet(yep we have a genuine working toilet next to the barn), done some landscaping, exterior painting, plumbing, electrical work, moved pile of lumber and posts, resurfaced the driveway, working on cleaning out attic and basement, canning...goodness knows what all I've done but I've stayed busy and enjoyed it. But the most I've enjoyed is spending time with Catherine. Dad is finally getting to spend time with his girl and we both are enjoying it very much.
Recently I was appointed to the Ashe County Department of Social Services Board of Directors where I serve as vice-chairman. This interaction with others has made me realize I miss providing services for others who are in need. Since 2011 I have been busy assisting in the care of my father who was plagued with a large number of physical ailments, but on 12/04/2014 he ended his battle and that has left me with a empty time on my hands. Therefore, I am looking forward to obtaining a position where hopefully my 30 +/- years of public service will enable me to once again help others."

I'm not sure what Judy Poe thinks she will accomplish by changing the DSS board unless she plans on running for commissioner again. And even then, I have to wonder what her end goal is - is it to get rid of select county employees? She has had it in for county employees for a very long time. Let's not forget her comment about employees when Pat Mitchell was let go.

"To the county employees I say, you have jobs. There are thousands of Ashe County people that would be glad to come and put in an application for anybody that wants to quit as county employee," Poe said.

Well App Gal says to the employees: "Don't ever forget what Judy Poe has done and tried to do to county employees - especially if she runs for office again. The message at the last primary obviously wasn't clear enough to sink in through her arrogance and vanity."

He's Yearick's best friend. What other qualifications do you need. He worked at Social Services a long time ago. He has a personal beef with Donna Weaver. He worked at New River Mental Health but that did not last. He's tight with Judy Porter Poe. What other qualifications do you need. The good old boy system is fine and we'll in Ashe County.

Someone needs to ask the commissioners how they intend to come up with the lost federal funds DSS will lose if taken over by the county. Taxes? It's a large sum. Opps,, no one has brought that up. Is hiring a buddy, worth the extra taxes we will be stuck with? They do not have the county's best interest in mind.

It will lead to a we told you so catastrophe.

I didn't realize that about the out of compliance fines and money. If I didn't ifs for dam sure they don't know.

They claim they want to save the county money. But wait and see what this is really going to cost. First, the Empire building county manager will need an assistant. Then he will need people to help oversee all of the new county employees he has to manage. I bet that will be another two new positions. Then we will have to wait and see what all of the out of compliance fines cost us. Right now if DSS were to be found out of compliance and ordered to return funds to the Feds, that is the States problem. Take over DSS and it is the counties problem. I can easily see this leading to a major property tax increase.
