Their budget request forms that do get submitted consist of a single piece of paper with crayon writing that says "we won't monee"

From what you have seen, do you think that any of these guys could present a budget? There is absolutely no transparency, and that usually means lots of waste they don't want you to know about.

Surely they have to present a full budget to the county? How else would the county be able to set the fire tax rate for a district? Folks these are our tax dollars and this Lansing fiasco just brings to light how loosely our money is just handed out the the fire clubs.

In the real world when it comes budget time you make sure you have the funds are are going to continue to get the funds you previously requested. Now, places usually send out a notification to submit budget request and as small as Lansing is I doubt they did that and that should change. Still, you don't just assume you are getting money without requesting it. Dogs right, this was poor management all the way around, however, It is becoming the norm for the fire departments.

Each organization I've worked with in the county which receives funds form the county or the town, we have always had to request our funding, this has always been done with a summary budget showing what the funds will be used for as well as a cover letter and an appearance by members of the board of the various organizations. In many cases we have returned to the Board, prior to budget time, to discuss how we used the prior year's funds and how successful we were in obtaining our established goals.

There is plenty of blame to go around with the LFD, the majority should lie with the appointed or elected leaders of that organization.

So none of these hose jockey clubs present the towns with budgets. Do they even send the county a budget? The town is just a guilty of incompetence as the hose jockeys as they knew they were taking the fire department money and using it on a side walk. Did you do a budget in the FD Timmeeyy?

I give up...

Morons rule the world, and that's just how it's going to be. Intelligent people know better than to take the jobs that will be nothing but headcaches and little or no reward. So they are filled by people that can't count to 21 without getting naked and get off on some power. Even Timmeah was smart enough to get out of the fire department.

I just don't know what to say about this, yes if you rely on government money you have to ask for it.....that's common sense......

When are these guys going to take some responsibility for their finances. You at least have to ask for the money to get it.
