The school they send the commissioners to will discourage the board from asking employees about their jobs. I dont think they would achieve a true state of the employees. What they should do is direct the county manager to have each department head to hand out a survey to each employee and have it all blind and return each one turned in to the board.

Why would Poe try to do anything beneficial. She's done nothing beneficial in the last 4 years and has made the county a laughingstock when it comes to governance.

The voters finally decided they'd had enough as evidenced by her becoming low vote getter in the primary and yet she manages to get appointed to an important county board with the help of a new manager that she evidently hand selected - makes me wonder if he's merely a puppet hired to orchestrate her wishes, and if, so, will she still be behind the scenes pulling strings.

If I were the new board members, I would be very careful when listening to his advice and seek other opinions before blinding following his lead, lest they end up being manipulated. From what I've heard around the county, they should also query some of the employees about the state of operations and employee morale - if the employees are willing to open up and speak frankly - some of them may be job scared.

The lack of accountability and responsibility is what allowed the Nut House to fester into the boil that it became. Just because regular reports are required and verified does not imply that anyone I under suspicion. It is just good business practice. And that wasn't happening with the Nut House. And all of the Mouth Breathers were responsible for not demanding it via their employee, the Manager (ette).

She was the whistle blower though on New River. She likes to remind people of that, in hopes they will forget that she let New a River go for months without providing their required financial reports.

She has a great track record already. Look what she and sands sat back and let happen to new river. The only surprise will be how fast she does it.

I doubt that she will. But, I am willing to be pleasantly surprised.

Do you think Poe will stop some of the wasteful spending in SS? I hope someone will. I know some people who could work instead of holding out their hands for free food, heat, money, etc.

Its my understanding they are paid an amount for each meeting attended. Something else hidden in the social services 10 million dollar budget.

I remember that farmer. Just how much ear bending will poe be doing with Rorak and Sands?

Just what are the lawsuits about they keep going into executive session about? Notice I said lawsuits.

Is this a paid position and if so where does the money come from?

I just heard from a friend that Sexton is good buddies with the county manger. It appears political favors have been pulled in an attempt to take over the social services board. I recall that Poe wanted that department placed under county control at one point. That could be the objective in the appointments....not a good one, might I add.

That would be very correct farmer.

I don't know him. He's a Republican I'm guessing?

Terry sexton will be the other appointee. Anyone else know who he is good buddies with?

That could be interesting if she and Lynda don't see eye to eye. Which members are coming off and who is the other new member?

Scroll down the page at the bottom there is the current board of social services. I had to find it on a state level. As usual the counties web site is a joke. They bragged about how they had improved it in a meeting. All I see that was done is some pictures were added..

Fins is partially right Shucks, she might have some limited ability to cause grief to the social services department but unless she can garner a majority of the board members to her side she will be ineffective. The other questions are who else is on that board? How many are on that board? And how many will side with Poe? If she has a majority of the members on her side then she could create a lot of problems for that board...

And Fins, I've always had a problem with political appointments. They shouldn't happen in my opinion. Appointments should be based on who would serve the citizens best in that capacity rather than on an exchange of political favors.

I disagree Fins. If she's serving on county boards then she is the county's problem and has the potential to create havoc.

While I do agree that political appointment happen everyday, it is seldom that someone who is in such obvious disfavor with their own party as Poe was demonstrated to be in the primary is appointed. I think underdog was be onto something when he questioned if it was payback for the manger being hired by her.

The state political machine is pretty small and tight. The chair of a county commissioners board, even of ashe, would develop the connections to get a governors appointment. Having the reinforcement of a manager that served as a county party chair just makes it better. This is no surprise. And it's nothing to really get pissed about. Just remember she isn't the county's problem any more.
