As is always the case, there is a lot of hoodoo with this information. Previously we found that the individuals at the department had no idea what the fire causes were. That was allegedly left up the Fire Marshal. Those stats are never revealed as they should be at least annually either by the individual departments or by the County Emergency Preparedness Office. As an example, the local hosers will say they had x number of structure fires last month. In reality, y number of those were already extinguished before they arrived. Only z number required the hosers to do anything. But the number that get tossed about is the x number because it is larger and sounds more impressive. Also they tend to turn one of these calls, or accident calls etc into social events. Just count the number of trucks and hosers just standing around at an accident scene next time. I have nothing against thi bunch, but I do think they have let the sound of their own wheels make them crazy. (With all due respect to Eagles, of course)

I'm not sure if they can't tell, or are afraid to tell people how many of what type of calls they really run. Because then people may figure out these volunteer hose jockeys aren't FDNY

Its been 12 hours and just as I presumed the hose jockeys can tell you all about the excuses of why their iso rating is still a 9 but cant answer the question presented of how many fire calls they have run in 12 months. Its a public record that they must keep.

It's too bad you couldn't drag Fins out of that wh*re house he found and bring him back home. The place here ain't the same without him

I have just been hanging out watching things here and kind of laughing at some of things that are still going on. For instance, the faces changed up on Snob Hill but the mouth are still hanging open to breath through. And yes, we were in Mexica BTW. All I can say right now is that The Drunken Preacher has been cleared of almost all of the b*stiality charges against him and what few remain are not considered to have been crimes against nature at all. Now he is just drinking to forget it all.

I heard agent and Fins have been camped out down in Mexico working to break the drunken preacher out of prison. Didn't hear the details that got him locked up. But I take this to mean they got him across the boarder. I'm sure the story will be great if they can tell it

Joesph I heard it wasn't tax money also but rather club house money.

Yeah agent I do remember now asking them how many calls they ran a year and of course no one would answer. Btw where you been hiding? Get locked up in a dry out facility?

Dog the money I am talking about is different than the tax money deal.

Dog, remember when we were asking them about how many of what kinds of fire they had in the previous 12 month. They couldn't do it then and I bet now the answers about response times will vary according to who you talk to. Its the lights, the sirens, and the parades not the fires that matter to this bunch. Speaking generally, of course.

Joesph I think the missing money came up when they wanted to steal Deep Gaps tax district in Ashe county. The club covered it up.

I know several people who were on Fleetwood and they all had bad things to say about the station. I also heard that one person left Fleetwood and went to Todd a while back and also heard something about missing money.

Basking has a good point. A half burnt house only sets you up to fight the insurance company to repair your house. They dont mind taking your money for the insurance but hate to pay it out. If memory serves me a singlewide home is a total loss in 12 minutes one would think a doublewide would be a total loss in 24 minutes.

Can one of you hose jockeys tell me the average response time is to a house fire in the county?

I don't really see what the difference is if the whole department is 2 hours away at training, or pushing 30 minutes away training in the county. If it's burnt for 30 minutes already, do me a favor and let it go to the ground.

I was talking to this guy one day that said he wanted to install spike strips at the end of his road and tie them into his security system so that if the fire alarm goes off, the spikes pop up and slash the fire truck tires.

Heels,
Keep in mind that they also said they "supported" education and WCC. There was no direct answer given during the meeting on funding the project, merely statements that it would be discussed during budget. That very well could be a smokescreen. there won't be an answer on whether they really intend to fund the project until they produce a budget.

I'm grateful for all those that volunteer, I am against this unless it is included with a new community college. Those idiots jumped up in support of this, yet their decision to not fund the college will cost this county more money in the long run. This should have been included with that project.

I'm not on Fleetwood - if you will look back through old posts you will find that I said many firemen dont have good things to say about Fleetwood. And yes my department has gone through a multi-day inspection.

underdog2

Farmer you are exactly right.

Fire2 I am perfectly aware of setting up fill up points and I am also familer with how the commission comes up with the flow rate of a departments district based on the density of housing, commercial buildings and their height, schools, churches, etc...so thats a no on you going through a 3 day inspection.

Btw fire2 what is the iso rating of your fleetwood department? Still a 9 huh?

Farmer28

Posted 2:14 pm, 05/06/2015

Had the commissioners been smart enough to fund the Wilkes Community College expansion it would have provided a place for a training center and it wouldn't have been that difficult to tack on the cost of facility construction to that as well.

Dog, Every department goes through inspections, mine is no exception. Having a couple of paid staff may reduce the time it takes for the first fire engine to make it on scene but unless your volunteers and mutual aid departments are close by to bring tankers there wont be a steady supply of water. the inspections give points based on the amounts of water you can haul in a given period of time and since most areas out in the county dont have hydrants, the departments have to put up dry hydrants and conduct haul operations from one of these during their inspection. Where paid staff makes a bigger difference is with first responder calls.

Most of the departments in Ashe county have already gotten their ratings lowered without the expense of a training facility. They have achieved 6-7 ratings and a new toy fire club house will not get them a bit lower.
The day of the volunteer hose jockey is slowly coming to an end. Your boys club will be replaced with paid professionals. Having paid staff does lower ratings significantly.

I highly doubt you will ever see paid firefighters in Ashe. Not in my lifetime or yours...
