Its a public record and on the internet who he is. They usually dont stay that long because they dont know how to talk to people.

Anyone complaining about the wastefulness of the Ashe dot can thank the new county maintenance engineer!! He started working in Ashe county about 3 or 4 yes ago and thinks he can do or get by with anything he wants too!! He is extremely wasteful of the dots money!!! Hopefully if enough people complain about him they'll replace him with someone who cares about the people and works in Ashe.

The DOT can do pretty much what they want...their like a 4th government! They just have completed a road project near my house in Wilkes that the projected cost would be $850,000 but it ended up being $1,600,000...they also used more land for their ROW just because they deemed it necessary for slope and fill witch both are BS in this case . No one is held accountable for the over spending either. Remember everything the DOT does is Public Info. and they have to release the Info if someone ask for it.

That's him. He was running the store a long time before the mine ever came to be. It was more ore less a regional trading post.

Here's the title search all the
way back to the Cowles Farm in the 1900's

The Jordans got it from Sammy Church in the 90's when it was just a big hole like the one at Watertank Road. I was surprised that the State would leave an owner with a landlocked piece of property.

Is that A. D. Cowles if so he also own a bunch of land on Idelwild rd. a ran the old country store and hotel for the gap creek mine.

I read the deed closely this morning. Its clear there is land left that will have no access to 221. It mentions there could be if an access road is ever built. In NC the law says if you allow your land to be land locked you must suffer the consequences. They were paid handsomely enough to walk away. Now it will be interesting to see what kind of tax value the county will put on the remainder.

Coop I will concede to you on this. I read the deed yesterday morning however I did not do a title search and match the meets and bounds of each deed to the deed to the department of transportation. I think I was wrong about damages being part of a real estate deal also. What bothers me though is the tax office using this sale.

It is one settlement for both. Yes there is a remainder on the Phillips property beside the fire department, and, it has no access to US 221.

underdog2

There was no remainder. The deed states they bought both tax parcels. It would be illegal to pay for damages through a deed.

You can not tell from looking at the deed that is registered how much of the payment was for what they got for the property and how much was for damages to the remainder of the property,

From what I've seen, they seem to be getting a kick out of the fact that they can hold the DOT up as long as thy want to take to find a new location

It appears the fleetwood hose jockeys have not made a deal with the state as of yet. Nothing recorded in the register of deeds.

The people I've talked to have been paid well.

Coop, poboy has a valid point. Has everyone been paid double for their property? The state bought 2 parcels from the Phillips. One with a value of 94,400 and the second with a value of 172,300.

Lol. You are referring to the John Phillips property. Public record. I saw that on a friend of mines maps. They are taking about an acre of his land. He has no access to the remainder. It is not a waste pit.

If you think DOT cutting the grass on the property they bought for the right of way is a waste of money, look up what they have paid for some of those properties, just saw where they paid 401,500.00 for just damages on a vacant lot this is nothing but a waste pit and the lot hasn't been used in the past 3 years or so and the owner of the property gets to keep the lot. Based on this figure people who has already sold them property should have gotten a premium price for theirs, actually 2 to 3 times the tax value of the property.

It's just special, i suppose. And maybe it's not intended for you to know everything going on everywhere..Or why certain things happen the way they do..

From what the guy from NEO the company removing the Asbestos told me they are going to tear down the houses after they remove the asbestos. This doesn't explain why the DOT wasted tax payer money to mow the grass especially when there are 3 others buildings with in a half mile that are in the same shape that didn't get mowed.
