True M-10s/MAC-10s are assault weapons but they've been out of production since the 70s. They are not assault rifles though. The M-10/MAC-10 is specifically mentioned in the 1994 assault weapons ban.
However there is a version that is not considered an assault weapon that was made in the late 90s as a civilian version. The PM 11/9.
However though it's been out of military production for decades I wouldn't be surprised if there is a warehouse with thousands of them stored and in new condition. After all we are storing 1300 M1 Tanks of various makes that the Army doesn't need, and keep buying more....
So if they got it from military surplus might be possible.

When did the sheriffs department get to store guns in the armory to begin with?

It's not irrelevant. It establishes a pattern of you being misinformed. As for guns being stored in the armory, that's where they are supposed to be.

I doubt they got MAC-10s since they were no longer made

jrscott295 | Posted 3:17 am, 04/27/2016 | M10 is a scabbard for a M7 M-10 is the common designation in the US Military for a MAC-10. I see no reason why they would need a MAC-10. If they did get MAC-10s I hope that they are taking training courses, machine pistols tend to be harder to control than standard machine guns.

You want to try that again? There is no such thing as an M-10. There is a manufacturer named M-10 that builds updated versions of AK-47s. They did not buy AK-47s.

I thought they got M-10s. Why did they get these rifles? Is it to fight ISIS or citizens during civil unrest? What the ****????

I, for one, would rather see them carrying longbows and shooting arrows with suction-cups.

I wish the people of ashe county really knew hiw crooked the cops are. I know from personal knowledge that they only arrest who they want, if it's a drug bust and a "friend of the jailerstwhile wife" asked them they will over look it.
