I'm a betting type guy.

If you call this number tomorrow and tell them about the eye wash station, I'llbet it will be fixed in 48 hours. .

Lets see they sell the old Fleetwood school for $150,000 and yet they haven't fixed the broken eyewash station which is a piece of safety equipment in the auto shop at the high school. That should turn out to be a costly lawsuit for them when someone gets something in their eyes and has damage due to not being able to promptly wash them out.

I think in Roark's feeble mind that he was trying to say that the opening bid was too low. He was wanting to buy the property and make sure the county got a fair price for it. In the end he fumbles his words so much no one knew what he was saying.

Yes the furniture is capital outlay. If the rules are the same the old furniture will be listed on the state surplus list and other State facilities can bid on it ...then go to the public for bids.

I noticed in the article Heels posted that the superintendent said the money received for the fleetwood school property would be held to buy furniture for the new middle school. The GS that coin posted says for capital outlay. Is furniture capital outlay? What are they going to do with the furniture at the current middle school?

The Post reported the property was up for bid in December.

Getting to little for this land and paying to much for the Dollar land for the new middle school is part of the problem with our current county leadership.

NC General Statutes 115C-518 (a) .....The proceeds of any sale of real property or from any lease for a term of over one year shall be applied to reduce the county's bonded indebtedness for the school administrative unit disposing of such real property or for capital outlay purposes.

Considering how much money Fleetwood VFD received for the property, it seems like the BOE could have made a better deal for the taxpayers.

I really dont know. Unless it has to do with the counties value as related to loans. The counties net worth for a bond rating? As for the churches thats another question. They should be paying property taxes.

Yep. But I don't see a reason. Do you?

All property is appraised. Even the baptist churches.

I find it strange that the county would appraise it in the first place. Do they appraise the jail, courthouse or county park?

While the county has continued to appraise it at 500K one would be hard pressed to pass it off as worthless to the other fire clubs in the county.

Lol mr dog, you knew if I posted it - it had to be public information.

The whole deal is more of a community donation rather than a legitimate payment or purchase. The DOT did about the same thing with the Deep Gap department 20 years ago.

The Department of Insurance makes millions of dollars of grants a year to fire departments

A few points. The old part of the school building needed a new roof. The lunchroom is a 1950s building. The newest part with a gym is on three different levels. Not ADA compliant. Add in the asbestos problems and limited parking it was a liability more than an asset for the county.

You are so right. I thought the state had just grouped the two pieces. Correction on the dogs part folks. Thats a tad over a 1 million bucks for the dilapidated fire club house.

Flash you are correct there have been some astronomical prices paid for property along this row. My main problem is the price the fleetwood gang is paying for the school property. Were the state to have taken the school the price would have been ten times that amount. I see it as a favor by the county to them and the other departments will be up in arms over it.

Two separate consents - They had two pieces of property side by side

Deed Book 0477 Page 0628 $80,000
Deed Book 0477 Page 0633 $995,000

You need to research some more of the transactions for ROW. This is cheap, relative to what they are taking, compared to some of the vacant land. They paid over $150k for a little over 1,000 sq. ft. on 421.

Anything Roark would try should be of no surprise to anyone. He might want to remember the fire clubs stick together like glue when it comes voting time. However is it fair to all the other fire clubs in the county that the property with a tax value of over 500K is more or less gifted at the price of 150K to Fleetwood? I have a feeling there is going to be a problem with this.

Public---the last recorded consent order only lists the payment to fleetwood at 995K. Recorded on 1/6/17.

Two consent orders totaling 1,075,000.
