Skyline give 25,000 dollars to Hospital

The land line is becoming a thing of the past. Just wait until all the towers are built carolina west told the mouth breathers they were going to build.

There are over 40,000 households in Skyline's service area. Of those over 10,000 are in Ashe county. So that's about 2.50 a household in the county. That's not outrageous by any stretch.

But they are barley anything now. They used to be a decent rebate.

Scott, we know that the hospital will need public funding. The citizens of Ashe even voted to increase taxes to do so, even though they were lied to about how the tax worked and that it would be temporary. Skyline though is a cooperatively owned utility. People used to get rebates at the end of the year because they cannot legally make a profit. If you have skyline service, then you are an owner of that company. That's your money they gave away without worrying if they are providing you the best service they can for the lowest price. Also, consider this angle. You aren't really bothered because they gave your money to your local hospital. But, they service other counties. Would you still feel ok with it if they gave your money to cannon Memorial in Newland?

Scott, its not the hospital getting the money its who is giving the money and where the money came from. If the county sits back and lets those idiot mouth breathers not continue to give the hospital the tax money that the voters approved---shame on them.

If you think the Hospital isn't going to keep getting money for the foreseeable future from the taxpayers then you really aren't paying attention to circumstances. With their upcoming renovations we'll be footing the bill for the next 3-5 years at least and possibly longer. I have no problem with the Hospital getting money as we need the hospital without it the tourists and what industry we have left would leave. It's a far better expenditure of taxpayer dollars than the airport.

Ocm, the problem I have and many others have with bremco is their constant claims, preaching, pounding their chests proclaiming how transparent the company is and its our company. A few years ago when we made public these perks bremco burnt a trail to lightfoots office at the paper to blow smoke and try and tell him what to print and not print. That board is there only to put a rubber stamp on what bremco wants. They know better than to ever question them. Nothing about them is above board.

Dog, the perks of BREMCO board membership are great. I suppose I am jaded by knowing the perks of South River, Lumbee River, and Central Electric Membership.

It's like the tax rate here - it's roughly half what it is in the flatlands so when locals complain I laugh. As with BREMCO, the cream skimmed off the top in a mountain based corporation pales to that skimmed by corporations in other areas of the State and nation.

Well dumb ***, shows just how much you really know now doesn't it.

So while you set back spewing from your pie hole, maybe you should first gather your facts!!

And just how many property taxes did you pay? Coming from an idiot thats not even registered to vote.

I don't see it as being duped into anything. The county needs the funding, and just because you don't approve of how the county always handles funds or does business doesn't necessarily mean it's right or wrong. Your opinion of the county will have the 500K to blow else where as it pleases. Is just that, one opinion amongst many who may think otherwise.

Scott, least I remind you and everyone else that sales tax you people voted for so as to give the hospital 500K was only for 3 years. It will soon run out but the tax will still be there and the county will have the 500K to blow else where as it pleases. We all were duped into thinking the money would continue going to the hospital.

So would you rather the county increase sales tax again or property tax? We have among the highest sales tax in the state but our property taxes are relatively low for the state.

Because if the Hospital doesn't get these donations from other groups, then it needs more money from taxpayers to stay operational.

Would y'all like some cheese with your whine? They provide you a service in which you pay for. If you think they overcharge or disagree with what they do with the money, they receive for their services. It's simple enough, don't use their services!!

Ocm there is one more thing that can and should have been done long ago. A petition for each board members seat that they have sat in so long they have all but rotted with that health insurance we pay for, those seats in the box at ASU, those front row hockey and NCSU basketball seats. I feel sure there is more hidden from us.

NCGS 117-18 allows BREMCO and any other co-op, to do most anything with their money or land. You as a co-op member are nothing more than a single share owner of a large corporation. The Board does what the majority of the share owners ALLOW. Duke Power and Skyline are essentially same, except the private gauge much more than the CO-Ops or the Municipal Systems and the Co-Ops and Municipal Systems spend what they overcharge locally, essentially creating a tax.

The Chair of the NC Board of Co-Ops is Kenny, complain to him.

I have heard that BREMCO gives away millions of dollars. I don't know if this is it or if there is more.

Blue Ridge Electric is celebrating its 20th year of offering Bright Ideas grants as part of its support and commitment to education. To date, Blue Ridge Electric has awarded more than $363,000 and provided direct funding assistance that has impacted on more than 100,000 local students.

The company is part of several North Carolina electric cooperatives providing Bright Ideas grants. Together, they have provided more than $8.5 million for 8,300 classroom projects impacting more than 1.5 million students in North Carolina.

Blue Ridge Electric is a member-owned electric cooperative serving 74,000 members in the six-county area. To learn more about the Bright Ideas grant program, visit http://www.BlueRidgeEMC.com or call (336) 846-7138.

How nice of them to over charge the members so they can give money away.
