Could you explain more aF?

Because maybe I don't understand.

But I do care.

The guard is part of the 3rd infantry regiment (the old guard), not the marines. Try to keep up.

The service is volunteer, the Marines have the option to cease and go inside at any point. It is not about money it is about dedication, honor, and sacrifice.

A Marine is not your common soldier.

The practice is old and archaic. It costs money.

It can be done with robots or a number of other automatic devices.

That practice in Arlington IS for the living, and it's for our enemies, but not the dead.

That being said, it's symbolic, just like the confiscation of Arlington from General Lee to be used as a cemetery. It's a symbol intended to convey the same message as a Trident submarine - fight to the death, then on the scorched Earth

It's a statement of resolve in a world where there is very little you can depend upon except death and taxation.

It's also an honor for the men who do the job, it affects them in a positive way.

Honor guards are for the families and the guards. Who does it harm?

Actually, it's not that simple. It's much more complex, but I don't expect you to understand it. The tomb of the unknown soldier, and the constant guard is for the living, not the dead. The dead couldn't give a crap

It's about Respect.....plain and simple.

I am impressed with your support! It is so nice that you let them know who paid for their dinner.

Flash can you or any of your buddies name me, say three things you could do to support our troops?

btw they were offered the choice to suspend duty during super storm Sandy and they all declined.

I was on the road a couple a few years ago right after desert storm I think and went in a choke and puke and had dinner. Across from me were 4 soldiers in fatigues also having dinner. I had the waitress bring me their tickets. I left before they did and I simply walked by their table and told them thank you their diner was on me and kept walking. Now you clowns think you know all about me dont you ?

Yellow ribbon magnets on your cars and Facebook posts don't support the troops. These are empty gestures that say, "I like to pretend I care, but I really don't want to do anything that takes any real effort". If one really thinks about it, these things are actually insulting to the troops

Government Offices in Washington, DC closed because of heavy snow yet the Tomb Of The Unknown Sentinel continued to stand guard with honor and without complaint! God Bless Our Heroes.

Please share to show your support for our troops.

Facebook post I just saw

So do the Ashe county honor club try and mirror themselves after the DC military honor guard? Since the military in DC carries a rifle why is it we allow the school yard barneys roam around a heated building with a pistol. Why is he not outside with a rifle guarding.?

I don't have an opinion one way or another about this topic but a question comes to mind. Does anyone think If the missing or unknown dead could speak they would speak in favor of this? Maybe a better way to honor these men would be to help the many men and women who came back who are crippled or have no one to help them.

Moron, questioning if the practice is out dated is not an insult. But small minded individuals like yourself can't comprehend that. You think because it's for soldiers it shouldn't ever be questioned. Well, everything should be questioned and re-evaluated regularly. Doing so doesn't hurt anything.

Panties, while some dumb *** teenagers don't understand personal space, for most people, seeing that vet cry is equally as powerful and important as the image of the guard.

I will relate what I saw on my two chaperone trips to dc with my kids classes. We went to the changing of the guard both times.

The second time we arrived too late to get a spot on the steps so we had to stand beside the guards. The first time though we were on the steps. I noticed 5 men in uniform on the steps saluting the unknown soldier during the changing of the guard. One was about ten feet away from me. He had a tear running down his cheek while he was saluting. It was a moving experience for all who were there, some more than others.

I would say it is for people like them that we still have this.

I would also relate that same soldier who was crying had two girls (from another group) jump in front of him and take a selfie with him. He didn't flinch or break his salute to deal with these girls who obviously were not classy enough to understand why this is so important to some either.

See there is the problem you feel the " simple minded" don't get it. dog and nads you seem to be the guys that don't get it. The soldier in the Old Guard are not forced to guard anything. Once again I'll say... They are showing respect for the unknowns that are buried there. And unless you have served you will never know what that means or why they do what they do.

Well played dog, the simple minded twits still don't even have a clue as to what happened

Nope, and still don't.

Dog...The minute you questioned why it was still being guarded you disrespected the Old Guard and the men in the Tomb of the Unknowns as well as any other unknowns still buried on battlefields worldwide.

There is a plaque in the Tomb that reads: Honoring and Keeping Faith with America's Missing Servicemen

It took the place of the plaque that originally read Vietnam, as the pilot that was interred as Unknown from Vietnam was identified and returned to his family. There are still Unknowns from WWI, WW2 and Korea interred in the the tomb.

It is to honor the many MIAs who never returned home and is a source of pride for the guards who maintain their watch.

I have no idea who Baskins is. But as for who I am, I did my best to spell it out. Don't think you are some great sleuth.
