Todd Fire Dept facing foreclosure

We've actually spent something like 14 million over the last 5 years on it. But the budget for this year showed it budgeted for 500,000. Incidentally the new budget is out and it shows 273,000 for next year. Though that doesn't include the extra expenses they've added. With another 450,000 reserved for projects not budgeted in the budget you can bet it will get more.

Scott a half a million to the landing strip each year is not even close. It pisses me off to even think how much money has gone to the rich out there.

I think the county should attach strings to the funding. But hey the County Commissioners flush half a million to the airport yearly, not counting the upgrades......so I guess this is peanuts to them......

I guess it beat hanging out with his wife. Btw, being the dump truck is back, does that mean his time sheets didn't check out again?

Any way, back to TVFD. The residents of the Todd fire district should sue welch for the last three years of salary.

So thats why that foolish clodhopper was shinning on the bed of that truck when I pass by.

Ignore Timmy. When I just drove past him, he was sitting on the back of the cab of his dump truck, staring at his reflection in the aluminum bed like a chimp looking in a puddle.

This horse ain't dead yet, Clod. But I for one intend to beat it until it is. This fire club is out of hand. I'll keep beating until somebody in local government wakes up and starts making someone accountable for how tax dollars are spent.

I fully agree with your point fire dog. Yes they got 6 iso ratings without paid personnel or paid part time personnel. My point is the iso give points for paid personnel in the inspection.

New River also has a 6 rating.

The rest need to follow suit and get their rating down or face having funds withheld until they do.

How long ya'll gonna beat this dead horse?

Pond Mountain is a 6 and my point was that you do NOT have to have paid personnell to get a 6 rating since three other departments have done it. I had forgotten about Deep Gap.

Simply amazing.....is all that comes to mind on this topic...

The iso rating is done on points firedog and water flow. In a rural setting outside the towns you dont have to flow but guessing about 1200 gallons a minute. Yes having part time staff during low volunteer times does add points. I was also thinking Pond mtn was a 7.

Paid employees had nothing to do with lowering their rating. New River and Pond Mountain both have a 6 rating with no paid employees. What it takes primarily is obtaining and mapping out enough water points that have an adequate flow rate and working with your neighboring department to ensure adequate water hauling capability, training and a few other things that can and has been obtained locally by all volunteer departments.

when Todd first added paid hose jockeys, I thought it was a good idea, based on how it lowered their insurance rating. But, I also made the mistake of assuming that their board could do simple math and see if they could or couldn't afford paid positions. Now we know that a very simple look at the numbers shows there is no way they could afford paid employees. It's actually amazing that they thought they could

No more fire calls than this station runs its totally asinine that Todd pays a fire chief a penny.

In order for a full time fireman to get retirement benefits the fire club would have to become a "county fire department" or a "city fire department". Otherwise they would have no retirement. What they have now are part time fireman and this is the standard going on all over the country at this time. In time this will evolve into full time fireman at each station much like charlottle, winston and greensboro.

Only, the county merely contracts with fire departments as they do other nonprofit organizations. Each department has its own board of directors and establishes their own operating procedures. They are in no way under county regulation or supervision - they must only meet whatever requirements are put into their county contract and must meet the state standards for ratings requirements. I don't think any would want or welcome an arrangement like you mentioned, nor I think would the county want to enter into an arrangement like that as it would not only cost more in terms of salaries, retirement fund and benefits but it would add more work to other county support operations such as finance, payroll, accounts payable, accounts receivable, human resources, not to mention adding in a supervisor with salary, benefits etc..
