Open today, 3/17. New owner is the best. She will turn things around. She's hired an employee who worked for original owners so the quality should be back.

When is this place going to reopen so I can get an expensive cup of "caffeine"? Not much choice in town lately for a good cup or place to use the computer.

Fridaynightlights is right. It's often difficult to do business with our local businesses due to their quirky hours of operation. I know it costs money to stay open, but if you're struggling to stay open...????

it is very sad that so many shops are empty in downtown. i would love to support small businesses, but it is so hard when hardly any are open. boone doesn't seem to have this issue, and i do much of my shoppoing there now.

well, there seems to be quite a few inaccuracies going around about the deal, or lack thereof.
it is one thing to have a rough winter. a complete other issue to not pay bills from day one.

Time will tell how it all turns out, but Tarheel is right about business & the costs to do & stay in business here in our small town. Who will be next to close up shop? Like the real estate offices, many are going by the wayside. Just no one here to support all this with the bad economy now with what is happening in Washington. Wait we have not seen anything yet.

averagebear- of course you are correct. However the statistics on opening and running a small business have always been bleak at best. And in this climate even worse. Of course the other thing that neither of us knows is what numbers were given to the new owners. All this would be speculation. Tragically many small business owners can not afford what you probably would deem as quality help and service. To many times those working for them just have a do not care attitude. Add to that the CODB(cost of doing business) and again most small business people do not allow enough time and money to be put into said business. Look now at how many billboards are up with construction people advertising- once was real estate owners- then look at how many restaurants have come and gone in the area. And how short of a time they last. I worked in food and beverage for MANYYYY years. Believe me you cannot make money off water!! The net in many instances comes from the liquor sales. Times are tough my friend.

Did the new owners make the choice and did they agree to a contract when they took over? Yes; therefore, they knew the risks of buying a small business. They didn't have to agree to the terms - they could have easily walked away. The "robbed them blind" comment was inappropriate - they just didn't do the business to make good on their agreement and they, in turn, had to live up to the terms of the contract and release the business back to the original owners. Don't make more of it than it really is. It's too bad that the economy is suffering here in Ashe. I deal with local small business owners when they seem like they want my patronage.

I would not believe the comment about the new owners- until you find out what the old owners had charged them for that business. There was no way they could make a go of it! Anyone who understands the current retail market knows that there is so little business for all the retailers it is sad. Have you guys thought about how many cups of java, etc. you need to serve to make a living-let alone pay for an inflated business? I counted this morning and there were over 20 places for rent or sale just coming from McDonald's to the last light in W.J. The rest are clinging on by their teeth.
