Grandma's Homemade Brownies

Simple homemade brownies

1 1/2 cups sugar
3/4 cup all-purpose flour
3/4 cup cocoa powder
3 eggs
3/4 cup butter, melted
1/2 teaspoon salt (if using unsalted butter)
3/4 cup semi-sweet chocolate chips
3/4 cup of walnuts, pecans, or other nuts (optional)

Mix all ingredients except for the chocolate chips in a bowl by hand, just until everything is moistened. DO NOT OVER MIX!

Add the chocolate chips and nuts.

Lightly grease the bottom of an 8x8 glass dish. Or, you can line the dish with parchment paper or aluminum foil. Pour in the batter.

Bake at 325 for 20-30 minutes, or until done.

Very good brownies! They're VERY rich, though, so I strongly recommend adding nuts to offset the richness. And, I had to bake them for about 50 minutes; they were pretty thick, so maybe a larger pan would be better? Finally, a word to the wise: do NOT skimp on the quality of chips and cocoa powder! Cheap cocoa powder isn't going to taste good. I used Ghiradelli, and they turned out awesome.
