So true Mich66 about the middle schools..I called that one years ago..but A lot of the Jonesville athletes of prior generations are indeed not in Jonesville anymore. You can honestly tell by the demographics of the team itself.

I wasn't taking a shot at you Topflight. However I will disagree with you on the athletes moving out. Starmount numbers have stayed about the dame over the years student wise. The athletes are there. Many from the same familys that were part of the dominance. Yes they're a shell of what they used to be. I think the single greatest downfall for Starmojnt is the formation of the middle school. There is no competition when those kids get to high school like there was when they got kids in from 3 schools.

Excuse MichST66 he's too dumb to see that someone is actually giving props to how well Starmount does in the playoffs. Starmount will struggle with WC this year as well. Starmount would also be 1-3 vs Wilkes Central's nonconference this year as well. Stsrmount is only a shell of it's late 80's through early 2k teams however. The parent athletes of the past two decades have simply moved out of the Jonesville/Boonville area. Athletically they use to rival the old Thomasville/ Maiden/Shelby/ Reidsville teams. Those days are long gone. They still have a very good program. They just dont strike fear in opponents anymore.

The Wilkes schools wish they could have half the success Starmount and Elkin have had over the years. Starmount is in another class in the conference right now imo. They'll easily win things. Wilkes County will fill 3 of the bottom 4 spots in the conference. But hey at least they can always brag about middle school and jv championships since that success never translates to success at the varsity level.

True. True. However Starmount does show up better in the playoffs than anyone in the conference consistently. Kind of hard to debate that fact.

The entire conference sucks. Starmount, Elkin are just another Wilkes County team these days and everyone knows it.

Wilkes County football is terrible this year. Too much apathy in the county.

WC IS WAAAAAAY BETTER ON D THAN EW.....NOT EVEN A CLOSE COMPARISON!!!! WATAUGA DID GO 3 OR 4 RDS DEEP IN 3A PLAYOFFS LAST YEAR...SO YOU CANT REALLY EXPECT WC TO COMPETE WITH THEM AT ALL

The final in Boone was 59 to 6..Watauga had the ball for a whopping 4 plays in the second half and scored on one of them ..WC did punch one in on the goober D...if EW is worse defensively than WC then the state of football is absolutely ghastly..The juggernaught that is North Wilkes was drubbed 42 to 7 by Avery tonight..its horrendous

IF THERE IS A WORSE DEFENSIVE TEAM IN THE MVAC THAN EW...THEN I WOULD LOVE TO SEE THEM!!!!!

It would seem that you Wilkesonians would play better football. A,halftime score---- Watauga 53 WC 0- Wataugw had 3 touchdowns called back...it would seem that you all need a,better feeder program or perhaps better football players..i am sure that you will, blame it on,coaching....that is simply not the case

North Wilkes beat North Iredell 28-6.

North Wilkes- 52 West Caldwell- 14

Ashe's line on both sides is a real weakpoint for them. When we scrimmaged them at Ashe they couldn't block the run to save their life. Peterson maybe had 10 yards vs our starters, they didn't run it at all vs East Surry.

They are just really young this year.. it happens.

If North Wilkes keep the level of play up they had on Friday they could be the surprise 2A team. I had them losing by 12 to 21 to North Forsyth but they ended up dominating them. If they go between 2-2 and 3-1 in their non con games then they could be really good.

Looks like Ashe dropped a turd last night and East looks horrible.

That's true. But central has kids not participating that have been at summer workouts. Two in particular are Martin and Clark? Are the off the team now?

Ashe's #'s aren't great either. They had only around 22 or so varsity aged kids. They moved a few 10th graders up to have somewhat of a bench the other night but they had the least players out of anyone. Elkin from what I seen on clips from their scrimmage with Forbush are a little better but still not good. 24 or so on varsity and around 20 on JV.

MVAC's becoming the endurance and by attrition league. #'s are down across the board. Started with Ashe and the Wilkes schools but now it's almost everywhere. North Wilkes from what I seen has the most.. never thought I'd see that.

WilkesMan45

And what happened to Clark I think his name is? I don't see him anywhere out there.

WilkesMan45

Central only has around 20 players out for varsity. How is that possible? There max preps roster has twice that listed. Around 900 students and can only get 20 kids to come out. That's a problem. I see WC finishing near the bottom of the conference based on numbers alone. When you have less players than Elkin on your roster, you have questions to answer.

Ashe and Starmount will battle it out for the conference crown but yea I agree there does seem to be a lot of parity in the conference this season. Good luck to all teams.
