I voted for Trump, so being a divorcee doesn't really matter to me, none of us are perfect. I still think Trump was a better choice than Clinton or Johnson.
Goss being a Democrat has almost no chance of winning office in Ashe by the demographics of the last couple decades. Much like Blackburn sadly has no chance. However since only 2 Democrats committed to run for Commissioner there is no primary election for them both go to the general election.

OOPS I lied got to say one more thing Goss what an Ashe County name, look up history bet he is divorced just like Mochen, Sands, Barlow, Absher, .....limits your voting if you base it on that over and out my ballot Mochen 2018 Goss 2018 anyone but Sands and McNeil 2018

If Sands gets re-elected, and I think he will, solving the county manager problems will be a top priority. Every county employee I talk to is miserable.

sas I am not KIN to anyone on any of the ballots, but I am a lifetime resident of Ashe and care very much, with that said I don't require kinship or native as a pre-requisite as to who I vote for and if anyone else does that is just blind ignorance and I would proudly tell them that to their face no matter their age

Rex Goss is the general manager of Civitas Media.
Here's the article from when he was promoted to that position for the Ashe Mountain Times, after the merger he is still general manager as far as I know:

Those things have never made any difference here. The old folks do not go to those. The majority of this electorate is made up of old folks. Our decicisions are based on who we know and who we are kin too. Who knows Mochen and who is he kin too? I attended a Coffee With A Cop. I may have been the only non LEO in attendance. It looked like I was just getting coffee. None of them offered to talk with me or even acknowledged my presence.

Oh yeah, I hear a couple of dems decided to file what's the dirt on them? as far as republicans. we have Sands a divorcee with tax problems with former wife, McNeil well known for promoting wife on youtube, "Osborne a man that has served the county respectfully, Dix who realized his former party was a joke, Cox former lawman that obviously sees the corruption, Miller who just simply cares as a good ole boy. Blackburn no problem with him on the ballot because he has been defeated so many times..but wait a new name GOSS whoa look out bet there is a lot of history there. Who you gonna vote for?

My prediction is that Mochen will finish last in May. Any body that has any ties whatsoever to Rose will finish last in May. I'm thinking, even on speaking terms with Rose, will finish last in May

my 77 year old parent told me how sick they are of politics in the county, spending their entire career in Ashe County the said parent said the only candidate at this time they would even consider was Mochen because that was the only person that had reached out personally and seemed to care...get over with yourself and ask the people ::::this parent has known Absher since an infant and has zero confidence in him as a leader

I'll vote for Blackburn again for sure, though last time he didn't get enough votes. He was a good school principle many years ago, still have good memories of him. It would be nice if the county updated the candidate list to include everyone that filed.
My mom told me to make sure she doesn't vote for any of the county incumbents come election time. She wants all the idiots gone.
I also noted the Rose didn't have the courage to run. My guess is he's supporting Mochen so that he gets Chief Deputy, Mochen retires, then Rose moves up to Sheriff, or so he hopes.
I think it's bad for the people anytime anyone runs unopposed. Mom refuses to vote for unopposed candidates :).

Barlow and Roten unopposed ......that's what it looks like when you get the job done right. Lots of people filed for Sherriff and commissioner......it's an unhappy electorate after the last year of corruption. I see supporters and associates of the corrupt being done in May.

It appears Rose did not have the courage to face an angry electorate. 2 down, 1 to go. Unless she resigns, the citizens will have to wait till 2020 to send her packing. Of course some the coming lawsuits may hasten her exit.

It would appear that the former supports of the sheriff select were unable to find anyone to run for Clerk of the Court. Are there two seats open for Commissioner McNeil and Sands or has one other seated commissioner decided not to run?
