You then have to add several million for the furniture and Technology system that is needed to operate the new facility.

It's the government they never make anything on time or on budget......after all if they came in under budget you might not give them as much next time...

I surely hope our BOC and BOE do not act as their own GC......we might have to start keeping a better eye on both......

At one time the BOE was cutting footage of the new school to keep the cost within their budget, but then the sate awarded them a $15 million grant so they added some things back.

Exactly. Labor has gone up and is still going up because there is a labor shortage. And building materials have gone up too. But what that article doesn’t explain, a lot of the cost for Watauga was due to poor management by the BOE. If memory serves, they tried to serve as their own GC to save money. But this had the opposite affect. They made bad decisions and had to pay to have many things done twice. And given previous actions of the local mouth breathers and the BOE, I don’t expect them to be any wiser in their management of a construction project.

Keep in mind that the article you posted is from 2013 and the costs per square foot cited in the article (even the lowest costs) are a decade old. The cost per square foot has likely risen since then so I'm thinking if they can build it for $33 million it will be a bargain.

Anyone got the square footage numbers for the new school?

Have they increased the sq footage again?

Just 60 million seems excessive by the numbers reported by John Locke Foundation for costliest schools, I mean seriously we don't need to build the most expensive school in this county.....

I started to say $60 million, but I thought that might be over. I figured it’s price is right rules for this bet.

I've read this article and I see that the commissioners approved 33 million

25,000 going to the new middle school and 8,000 to the WCC-Ashe expansion.....

I suppose it's a typo and that's suppose to be 25 milion and 8 million, but if it's not what are we spending 33 million on?
