Robert E. Lee did not want monuments to be erected to begin with nor did he want the preservation of the battlefields. He wanted the nation to heal. We are seeing the effects that division still today. I love my Civil war history, my family history however that legacy is not defined by symbols and monuments that have been turned into hate.

Moonlight just proved the point about these whinning liberals! Your kids had to catch the bus in the dark at 50°...

You make me sick and you offend me with your mamas t*t syndrome, you want hard winters come to Pond Mtn/Creston where our kids wade eight inches of snow to ride a bus from dark in the morning to dark in the evening at 20 below zero. Its people like you who call the state department to come clean the 1/2 of snow off your road so the bus will run? While up here we never call and our roads are the last in the county to be cleared.

The wind was blowing!!!! MY BIG OLD BUTT!!

I'M SO MAD !!!!

Do us all a favor moonlight don't vote again, we deal with enough crap as it is.

What's odd now is there is a movement wanting segregation....you see it on liberal campuses all the time. Malcolm X and Dr. King probably turning in their graves at those fools.

I think most confederate monuments were erected during the battle against segregation.

As for kids waiting on the bus, based on the car lines in front of the schools, I didn't know kids still rode the buses.

We as a nation get offended to easily.

Someone once told me if you take offense when no offense was intended, the problem isn't with them, it's with you.

Our society needs to apply that. While I'm certain when many Confederate monuments were erected they probably were more erected as an act of defiance against the Federal government than as an approval of slavery.

Everything offends someone. If you look hard enough you can find someone offended by almost anything. I used to have a roommate when I lived out west he was offended by Halloween, Christmas, Easter, just about every holiday you can think about. His reason was his parents lied to him about Santa Claus, Easter Bunny etc for years. He never got passed that as hard as that might seem.

Such a rainy day, maybe she slept in.

Where is the superintendent with all this? Maybe she is making decisions about sending kids to school and all the surrounding counties are in a two hour delay? You can tell that she never had children thaf had to wait in the rain and catch a bus in the dark .Things would've been so much easier this morning in the daylight. If her children or grandchildren had to stand in the rain in the dark and 50° and catch a bus with the wind howling, she might wait until It was daylight . I dread a long long winter with her. We were lucky last winter not to have any accidents, and we only missed four days of school.

Well I do agree that people are very easily offended.

Sorry heels that was a poor excuse for sarcasm. My bad. Your right myself included I'm not offended by Muslims cause I was in Iraq. Sure seems like everyone in our country is offended by something.

Can't We All Just Get Along?

Skittles, what you don't realize is you just proved my point. People are stupid and uninformed. Allah is the Arabic word for God. That's it. It doesn't name a specific god. It's the word for the one God. Arab Christans use the word Allah for God. Allah Akbar is just Arabic for God is great.

People get offended without actually knowing why they are offended or finding out why something happened. Before getting offended, the kids should ask him why he didn't say under God. Or, fi zili Allah.

That makes zero senses, what difference would a gulf war veteran make? I know a gulf veteran that converted to Islam. Lives right here in Ashe county.

If their Dads and Moms fought in the Gulf/Iraqi wars then those students probably would be offended.

Speaking of being offended, that can be said of almost anything now days. Example: Question for the day:" IS majority of Ashe County taxpayers offended that Buchanan was appointed to sheriff by three commissioners without checking his resume much closer"? My bet is Yes!

If we are truly free in this county then we should be offended at the Bull**** thats going on in our government, nation, around our country and in our county..

Would those same students be offended if he said One Nation under Allah?

How about if a kid wears a shirt that says Allah Akbar? Would those same kids be offended?

I don't want to sound like bufort afic, it just seems like all the antifi groups and gay rights, black lives matter, white skinhead, LGBT, All have something to cry about. Some of the students were offended that the Sgt. took God out of the pledge of allegiance. Do they not have a right to be offended?

Those same students walk the hallways with the transgender kids who are allowed to dress like a woman even if they are young men? But the Christian students can't wear a T-Shirt with a bible verse on it?

That's a double standard!

What were you doing hanging out at a high school anyway?

Should we burn them at the stake? Stone them to death? Force them to go to a Church service they don't want to be at, and quite frankly the members don't want them there either?

While the ROTC should be following the pledge as defined in 4 U.S.C §4, since the ROTC is part of the military prior to 1954 the Pledge did not capitalize nation and it did not include the phrase under God.

It was added in 1954 as part of the Red Scare, to show we weren't Communists.

The original pledge from 1892 is much different than what you know:

"I pledge allegiance to my Flag and to the Republic for which it stands, one nation, indivisible, with liberty and justice for all."

Keep in mind in 1892 folks thought of themselves as Virginians, New Yorkers, etc before they thought of themselves as Americans.

Careful skittles. You are dangerously close to sounding like Bufurt.

Sks, maybe you should get the sheriff to hold another prayer vigil at the high school. Or maybe the Master Sergeant doesn't know the pledge of allegiance? LMAO...
