Ashe County School System losing good teachers by the day!

Ashley would have been a fine choice in the role of superintendent. Fast forward, the chance to make a difference in leadership comes in November. It makes me sad to hear all the negativity around our school system. I hate to hear people are contemplating the homeschool option. We can restore our reputation with a solid board and superintendent that put the children first and support the schools, staff, teachers and leaders. Now is the time!!!!!!

I school system is so screwed up sometimes that I am considering homeschooling my kids.

No one has run for BOE the last two elections because the public assumed everything was okay with our schools. Since Holden left and Yates was given the job without it being posted, people are beginning to question their ethics. It was handled in an inappropriate manner and now that the sheriff issues have died down for a bit, maybe the mess with our schools can be looked into. Someone said Yates was not going anywhere and they are right because she lives at her job- probably even sleeps there. That does not mean she is doing a good job though! It appears more posters here feel that she is not and the entire situation has a rotten odor!

I agree with Olejoe's statement. Should have put in Ashley.

The worst mistake I can remember the BOE making was passing over local B.Ashley for Reeves several years ago.

Heels. You are correct. And the board did not post when Dr. Holden left. At the time it made sense. And she was appointed interim. Maybe because board couldn’t ask Mr. Johnson again. Maybe the board was looking for stability because the previous two hires left before their contracts ended. The current superintendent is a solid choice based upon that. She’s not going anywhere because she’s up in years, not looking to advance a career and no other system would even consider such an option. So the superintendent rides along and makes no waves because how can she really? She’s only worked in an office. Never in a school, directly with students and teachers. I’m assuming if she only has a bachelors degree, she has no curriculum training.

Then May rolls around, Sassy and she capsizes the ship. The current board has been serving together for 8 years. The last 2 election cycles the incumbents have run unopposed. Not now. We are all artists and paint our own pictures. This is how I’ve painted my landscape. I could be wrong. You are correct in that the general public has been accepting of this board in years past. We will see if that holds come November.

If you are so hot to change things file to run for BOE and see where that gets you. Our electorate has voted for the same people for BOE for many years. I am guessing there is a reason for this. There are more folks running this year than I can ever remember. Throw your hat in the ring and see what happens.

They don't have to post anything.

They were all posted until our current one. There was not a search. She was interim and took her name off the interim and paper said interim. She never applied and they never did a search. All other times, it was posted, but not this time. Look it up. She was interim and she decided she was staying. That’s the facts. No job posting for this one.

I've said it before and will say it again. BRES has the lowest test scores for the 3 elementary schools. So obviously it isn't doing them any good for them to have the extra help. The children deserve the extra help. It is pure jealousy for whatever reason.

I am sure that I am not the only person who saw the superintendent postings for the last four supers. They were all the same. Talk to Ms. Goodman with HR at the BOE. I am sure she will share them with you, Ricket. They are the standard posting for the job from DPI. Every BOE in NC is given tremendous leeway to hire supers that fit their needs. Your wants and desires do not necessarily reflect the needs of our elected BOE.

No one had slept there. What are you taking about. And if they did on their personal time, then good for them. We talking about those qualified for the job and I can guarantee we can point fingers at every board member. Fact is that everyone on here needs to focus on that she was interim. Heels 09, when was that voted on to change. I haven’t seen Interim on her letterhead and in fact hears that she demanded it be taken off when she first was named. And her child had thousands of dollars and extra months of employment. Until this year. Bres has a full time curriculum coach and two literary. Others had 2 and no coach. Bres will do better with this advantage. Did Rick price get the same!

Even if she doesn't have a degree appropriate for the job, I'm pretty sure she did sleep at a Holiday Inn Express.

Sassy. Please share such. And please make sure it’s the post for qualifations from when the board interveiwed and hired ( Dr Holden). Then please get a copy of her resume. Then provide a copy of the application and interview questions. Because you “know.” This would help in many ways. It would help us all see what’s involved in making such an important decision, or what should be one. Doesn’t seem to have been too important to this board since they merely appointed her as interim. Two plus years is a long interim...

Just see how many superintendents in nc have a masters or doctorate or experience on education such as teaching or admin. I would guess 98% sassy. Don’t care the minimum.

If any of you had ever read the BOE advertisement for the position of superintendent you would realize PY is highly qualified. The post is only concerned with leadership experience. No degree is mentioned. Leadership, in business, education, or the military are all the qualifications that are necessary. Sassy is seldom wrong.

There are very few jobs in the school system that don't require at least an associate degree.

Maybe your wife should’ve gone to unicers

Jack I can supply names and approximate dates and can recap wife's resume--but I will not do it in a public forum. (Three guesses as to who responded to wife's employment query.)

All I know about the Ashe County BOE is that my wife, with almost 30 years of experience as Administrative Assistant/ Executive Secretary, wished to apply for a secretarial position in the school system. She was denied not just a job, but even an interview, because she 'didn't have a degree'. Their loss.....
