Oh No, I hate to hear about the PT director leaving! He is so attentive and caring, his shoes will be hard to fill.Wonder where he went to?

Does the board care

The Old Fraud has turned AMH into a temporary hiring agency. What is the board thinking about?

The old fraud strikes again. The head of physical therapy has had enough. Hey trustees, how many more need to quit before you all do something?

Appalachian did not lose Sanger, they started their own group in the same building. Still there and they have 7 MDs in their Cardiology centerand they are a certified chest pain hospital. Blowing Rock is now a skilled nursing facility and they are under contract to build an entire retirement community around the new facility. Cannon is almost entirely Behavioral Health. They still have a few beds and emergency room, but most services have been moved to Boone.

The hospital has never done caths.

Since when does Ashe do heart caths? I've never heard of them ever doing them. You would be sent somewhere else for that anyway.

A cath lab at Ashe is not a realistic expectation. It has been and will continue to be a primary care facility until a major population increase and demographic shift occurs in the county.

I for one will not go to a hospital that has a cath lab but has to send you somewhere else for stents, rooter rooter, bypass, etc. I had a major heart attach during a cath several years ago and was fortunate to be in Winston when it happened. They had stents in a just a few minutes.

We know why they keep pouring money into the airport---one family name. They need to own it and they can afford it.

I would rather dump money into the hospital than the airport. The hospital will at least help attract people to the area.

They cant even get a full time cancer doctor, or hospitalists, so how are they going to open a cath lab and have 24/7 doctors there to do the caths? It will not make money therefore its just a pipe dream. You must remember this is a county of 27K people not a county with 75K people. There is just not the demand for a cardio unit.

Pappy, I thought Appalachian decided to not have redundancies in their facilities and had moved their cardio program to Linville because of all of the rich retirees right there. Watauga got the cancer facility and Blowing Rock became a rest home. I had someone explain to me once how and why they were dividing specialized services, but I don't remember now what it was exactly besides that the new Blowing Rock facility is a couple doctors offices and a rest home.

When you say a cardio program, are you referring to a cath lab?

Pappyspal

Watauga couldn't keep the CMC-based Sanger Clinic going for more than a couple of years. As far as I know only one of the affiliated MDs stayed in the area, and he had local roots to begin with. Ashe Hospital is what it is, nothing more, nothing less. The minute that it's not making $$$ for Novant, they will be gone.

I think a quality cardio unit would be invaluable to the county, I agree with FINS that that is something they should look to when expanding services.

I agree with JR and others in that our community needs the hospital. To close it would drive a stake through the economic heart of the county when we have enough challenges already. JR was also correct about the date of the initial Novant agreement. It never ceases to amaze how easily time can get away.

There are some decisions from hospital administration which seem to defy logic but we are making the assumption that hospital improvement is the objective. Are there one or more scenarios in which those decisions WOULD make sense? I submit that there are several possibilities and I will mention one that I've actually seen. A common component in an Administrator's compensation package is a bonus structure based on achievement of certain financial benchmarks by the facility. A particular CEO nearing retirement age made the decision to defer several significant expenses in order to polish up the financials in the short term which would translate to a larger bonus for his last few years on the job. The next CEO faced an enormous uphill battle because not only had several big ticket items been kicked down the road, they had become more expensive than they otherwise would've been had they been addressed earlier. When we critique a given decision, we judge it assuming we all have the same outcome in mind. That isn't always the case.

It may suck, but even so, without it, you might as well tear up the roads, because that would completely kill the area

AMH is a transfer station, it's not a hospital. It sux, close it down.

Cracker, just because they treat trauma cases doesn't make it a trauma center.
