Like to pick a tune, or dance a jig, tell tall tales, funny stories, (true or close to it. )Take a long nap after all that! Working is good, relaxing by the wood fire can't be beat. You-all have a great winter in Ashe! See you after the thaw.

In the cold winter months, most people work, then go home, light a fire, set the stove and booze for a few hours. If you want Laser Tag and Bingo you came to the wrong place.

I really don’t understand why people are upset about downtown WJ’s transformation. I first drove up here in the early 1980s and it looked like a satellite town of southeastern Kentucky, or a community in Wise Co., Va. I will say though, there are quite a few empty storefronts at the moment.

Stupid, “saw bones” is an old slang term for a doctor. It was in reference to a time when their cure for most injuries was amputation. It doesn’t refer to some that is old or a politician. God, you are stupid

Jr I listed 10 other N.C. mountain towns that don’t have universities. Well, 9, Banner Elk does have Lees Mcray. But no one counts that. All have become vacation and second home destinations even though they were middle of no where podunks before. And I said nothing about cities. I have no clue what you are babbling about with that comment. Your thinking that nothing will change in Ashe is ignorant and retarded thinking.

Boone still would be if it wasn't for ASU.....though that probably means ASU would be in Ashe County as it was also considered for the campus at the time it was built.
I don't like city life, I've lived in two cities, didn't care for it much, which is why I live here where I mostly grew up.

Jr, you really can be simple minded. At one time Boone, Blowing Rock, Banner Elk, Newland, Linville, waynesville, Highlands, Cashiers, Murphy, Lake Lure, and Hot Springs were all out of the way nothing places.

I'm not sure what you mean by progress. The idea this tiny out of the way area would ever be a major tourist attraction is well fallacy. Improvements being made such as a four lane etc make it more like where the tourists are trying to escape from.

The down town transformation to tourist Mecca is a work in progress. Progress thus far is impressive. Question, what do you do in the winter , after Christmas, for fun? Any antique buyers in Ashe?
