Can anyone tell me the county/sheriffs policy on take home vehicles?

I used to wonder why our deputies took two to three people down the mountain every day for commitment. After being on this site for over a year......I no longer wonder. I am actually wondering how any of our deputies have any other responsibility than to deliver nuts to the nuthouse.

How often do you see a highway patrol unit out patrolling the county back roads unless they have been specifically dispatched to a call? They operate entirely different than your local sheriffs dept, or town PD.

As if that's not already happening.

No real problem with the officers taking a lunch break. I would question the reasoning behind 3 or 4 taking a break at the same time. With the geographical expanse of the county I would hope that there are standard patrol sectors with officers assigned to each to respond to issues in that sector. if 3 or 4 are assigned in such close proximity to Jefferson, how much presence and coverage is there in the rest of the County? If you are taking such a significant portion of the available force off the road at the same time it will not take some of the smarter criminals very long to coordinate their activities to the meal/rest breaks.

Timmy why does the truth bother you so much? Is it because I am so much better then you?

Why would the superiors have a problem with it Timmy. Their superiors are breaking every patrol policy in the book also.

Well if you listen to Viper Talkgroup 52190, or 52192 you will hear them when the check out for meal breaks. Multiple cars at one time, same location. So if their superiors have no problem or issue with it, I don't see why you or anyone else should.

Timmy, all that are on duty are not supposed to take their breaks st the same time or drive all the way across the county to meet up.

Timmy that has been the case for years with the johnny troopers. Everyone knows they are there for an hour or more everyday backed in advertising. They are either getting free food and drinks or there is a hot female employee or two there. I would tend to go with the first.

I fail to see where you have any valid points to argue...

4 all at the same time, and it was 330pm? That has to be every last one of them. Kind of like the dot having breakfast every morning.

That's pretty much every afternoon. But what's the big deal, they have to eat...

4 Johnny troopers backed up at Hardees for all to see this afternoon. I ran a 100 after I got out of town.

One difference with LEOs and other jobs on call 24/7 is their vehicles are loaded with all of their “tools”. If they are called out for an emergency while on their off time, if they didn’t take their car home they would have to go to the sheriff’s department before being able to respond. I don’t really have a problem with vehicles going home. But they should have to live within a maxim distance to be able to respond in a timely manner.

Fins you missed this conversation and the discovery of barney vehicles at North Wilkesboro residences.

I have held several positions where I was on call 24/7 and have never had a company owned vehicle at my disposal. Some jobs just naturally come with being on call, and the employee(s) know this before going to work in that field.
