Parents are responsible for taking care of their sick kids. Not the superintendent. Don't send your sick kids to school.

Anyone know how many students were out at the middle school?

I had one person tell me about on two different outbreaks in their kid’s class (one was strep and the other was lice) it was the guidance counselor’s kid that was patient zero. She knew her kid was sick and bought it was nothing serious

Carman, how am I sick? I am well.

If people are too to get vaccinated they deserve to die. How is that any different from those who chose to do any other thing.

If you weed out the the economy will improve.

To some parents, school is a glorified day care. They either fail, or for various reasons have no alternative for when their kids are sick. They could not care less about spreading contagious illnesses. A few years ago, there was a school system in Maryland that would call an ambulance to take your child to the hospital if they were vomiting or had a fever. For other ill children, you had one hour to pick them up or they would call child protective services to come get them. That cured many parents of sending their child to school sick,

I really hate to suggest this but maybe we need a new regulation or law that forbids kids coming to school sick or with other easily spread health care problems. Not to long ago we had a problem with kids coming to school with lice and spreading it them around.

As JT mentions we are coming onto the peak of the flu season. this link goes to the NC DOH web site which charts flu activity. https://flu.nc.gov/. Lurker 2 points out an additional topic, did you and your family recieve your flu shots this season. It is not too late to get your flu shot, get out and get it done. don't go to work sick, don't send your kids to school sick, wash your hands, don't shake hands, cover your sneezes. There are many proactive efforts you can take to help reduce the spread of the flu virus . https://www.cdc.gov/.../index.htm
https://www.cdc.gov/...idance.htm

If a school dismissal or closure is ordered due to a flu outbreak, it will be done in conjunction with App Health, (local health department). CDC recommendations are for a closure/dismissal of from 5-7 days to attempt to break the spread of the virus. If that occurs it will be important for the students and families to remain segregated. allowing the kids to gather up and play games etc will no allow the infection cycle to be broken.

There are a significant number of steps which are recommended to be taken by the school prior to a dismissal or closure. Parents calling for a dismissal is not one of them.

Oh boy where to start first off February is the peak of flu season from I have been hearing so an increase in cases is no surprise. Second I have no love for the so called superintendent or how she managed her way into the job but canceling school is not the answer instead parents need to stop sending their sick kids to school. And I highly doubt that Jason the owner of this site lets Phyllis or her son control it because he is to worried about pleasing Google

Over one fourth of the middle school is out and the Superintendent sends out a message to clean and wash hands. When does she cancel? I’m so sick of hearing how she cares and she puts our students in danger when dismissing school ( 3 bus wrecks on dismissal) and then allows schools to keep on session and sends a phone call like that. I am not a poster but heard her and her son have control of this website but she is sickening. She doesn’t care about kids. Only test scores. We are 6th in state but nothing because of her. Take care of kids. They are sick.
