The state is really showing how inept it is in every way all the way to the dot.

Dog,

It looks like even AppHealth has started to distance itself from the NC site. I noticed this disclaimer this morning;

"You may notice a difference between our case count and the NC DHHS state database. Sometimes we get notification of positive results before they show up on the state dashboard. Also, individuals can sometimes get "assigned" to our counties that actually do not reside in our counties. When that happens, we work with the state to get that data reassigned to the person's place of residence."

Like you said a few weeks ago, the states site fails horribly.

Dog,

It should - eventually. What I have noticed is a definite lag in reporting on the state dashboard. For example, the Ashe death took nearly two weeks to be reported on the statewide board. By any definition, the NC COVID-19 Surveillance Dashboard is a hot mess. As of today, zero outbreaks are being reported in the AppHealth service area and one at the prison in Wilkes County.

I know the local health departments have formatted their COVID-19 information pages differently and are reporting different categories of data. For example, AppHealth which covers Ashe, Alleghany and Watauga Counties reports the number of cases, active cases, hospitalizations, deaths, and the number of people being monitored for Coronavirus but no demographics. Wilkes, on the other hand does report demographics, but not the number of people being monitored.

I don't know if the lack of standardization in format affects the collection and distribution of data or if possibly the data which is released to the state is only updated periodically. I guess it is possible the data is being "adjusted" (think climate data) before being released.

Wondering if there is a nursing home, residential living facility etc... of just two cases it would be listed by county and name of the facility on the state dash board.

Fins,

Since June 20, the case count in Watauga has increased from 9 to 32 which indicates there must have been a pretty wide exposure especially with 77 people being monitored. WD had a story on the increase but avoided reporting any details other than the race and ethnicity figures I quoted. Being the majority of the cases in Watauga have been in the 18-50 range, I seriously doubt it would be a Nursing Home outbreak.

It looks like Avery added 3 cases on the 30th and currently have 9 active according to the High County Press. I will talk to some sources in Boone and Newland and see if I can get any details.

Wondering, I'm hearing about a slight outbreak in Watauga and Avery. But I don't know if they are being reported locally because if it's true, it's students and seasonal resort workers (also student age group). Rumor is there's a connection back to a party in Boone.

9 (-)active cases in Ashe with 23 currently being monitored
3 (+2) active cases in Alleghany with 15 currently being monitored
32 (+4) active cases in Watauga with 77 currently being monitored
29 (+1) active cases in Wilkes
(Represents the change since this morning)

This count only includes permanent residents. Anyone who tests positive while visiting/vacationing/working in the area will be reported to the health department in the county of primary residence.

According to the Watauga Democrat, the majority of the cases in Watauga have been in the 18-24 age bracket (41%) and the 25-49 age bracket (35%).Broken down by race, 97% of the cases have been white and by ethnicity, 67% have been non-Hispanic white and 33% have been Hispanic, but race and ethnicity data is missing in about half of the cases.

Wilkes info can be found here:

I know that the state puts out numbers but I wonder how many active cases and people being watched are? The state numbers don't show true active numbers. Also I heard that there are cases in our jail does anyone know if that's true. I heard a deputy and his wife that works as a secretary at sheriff's office went to Florida on vacation and brought it back. They tested positive and are on leave right now. Word is a couple inmates that they dealt with ended up positive too. The inmates are on lock down from the contact with these two. Will they have to shut jail down or what do they do in this situation?
