Just been reading something rather interesting. Apparently in 2016 when the Republican hierarchy realized that Trump had built a substantial base among their supporters they decided to support his run for the presidency. In discussions among themselves they referred to him as a useful idjwiyt and someone they could control to ensure their control of congress, shades of Germany 1932.

Apart from Lyndsay Graham and Mitch McConnel there aren't many of the original cabal left, most of them have been run off or they crept away with their tails between their legs. And the yet the useful idjwyt is still there, shades of Germany 1936 .
