Jack a very valid point and why it will be overturned I think.

Jr, of would hope it is stuck down but ole Roy boy has five Democrats on the bench with the chance to appoint one more

They complain about gerrymandering but the Dems did out for as long as I can remember

The basis of this judge's voter ID ruling seems to be rooted in gerrymandered districts. Blatant gerrymandering absolutely leads to some voters being disenfranchised on election day. Right now in NC it takes 3 D votes to equal one R vote, so yes some citizens' votes don't mean squat. (For 100 years before 2010 the Dems in the GA were just as guilty). Non-partisan GA and Congressional districting is the only fix for that. The income tax cap ruling makes no sense at all. I just don't see how a single judge, or even a panel of judges, can reverse ballot initiatives that passed with clear majorities from the citizens themselves.

The article cited by the OP was written by John Hood and is tilted pretty far to the right. Here's another take on the same ruling.

How is a cap on income tax racist?

Were there not 7 amendments on the ballot we voted for? And this one man has the authority to pick only two of the amendments to strike down and leaving the rest? How in the name of old Jack Daniels does this happen in a democracy?

I think the Judge decided incorrectly and overstepped his authority, hopefully an appeals court will overturn the decision. There is no reasonable argument that the amendments were not validly passed.

Does this also mean all legislation passed by this state congress is also void?

I just read Ken Lynn's opinion piece that Jack referred to in another thread. I notice he is always quick to call out Republicans.....sometimes rightly so......but I can't recall ever reading where he has called out a Democrat for anything.

He also agreed with the decision to strike down the amendments passed by the NC voters.
Guess he doesn't believe in the will of the people.

I think that the judge took my vote and told me that my vote didn't mean squat. Funny thing there are numerous states including Virginia that already have voter ID in place.

The photo ID to vote and income tax rate cap at 7 percent was struck down by Wake County Superior Court Judge Bryan Collins.

According to the Judge, because of the redistricting ruling, the representatives who placed the amendments on the ballot, didn't have the right to do so because they didn't represent the people. Since these passed convincingly in a statewide vote, isn't that enough evidence it is what the majority of NC voters want?

One of the plaintiffs, the NAACP claimed the income tax cap was racist. It would favor white households and disadvantage people of color. The Judge apparently agreed, but I don't.
