Finally something we sort of agree on! Lotteries are a regressive tax on the poor.

And just as sadly the quick marts are mostly owned by the wearing of towels about the head people.

I witness daily at the local quick marts people who can barely pay for daily necessities pushing good money after bad with the scratch off tickets. Sad. But......its their money, sorta.

Much like the mouth breathers of Ashe county told us about the sales tax going to the hospital.

They aren't breaking the law. They just left the details out of how it could be spun.

Hummmmm so they are breaking the law much like the hood wink pulled on Ashe county voters to get the sales tax increased 1/4 cent bringing in over 500K a year promised to the hospital and after it was passed they tell us, Oh that is only for 3 years.

I told supporters of the lotto back then that it was a scam. I correctly predicted that any money from the lottery that a school district gets would be removed from their general budget. At best I said it would be an even wash. Now it's a loss. It's a complete scam that preys on the poor and ignorant. And it was pushed by the democrats who tries to convince their voters they are for the poor.

Introducing the "North Carolina Education Lottery" in 2005, then-Gov. Mike Easley promised that "we will be adding another half billion dollars annually for education."

But North Carolina now spends less on education in inflation-adjusted dollars than it did when the lottery was introduced. Studies find that lottery dollars do not actually increase education spending: Instead, legislators tend to redirect a corresponding amount from school funding to other purposes.
