Walking Mom, I did not say that the turnover did not exist, I only supplied information in relation to other McDonalds in this region and nationally. I suspect that part-time employee turnover, in general, is much higher than full time employee turnover across all business and industry it is the nature of that type of employment as folks move in and out of the work force based on financial needs at the time.

Turn over is turn over. Doesn't matter if it part time employees or not.

My understanding is that newer franchises must keep their buildings up to match current corporate designs. I assume they have been a franchisee so long that they existed before this level of oversight was put in place. And apparently all big chains/franchised companies are doing this now. They want all of their locations to look the same. I had a client with a car dealership that had to go into debt for a couple million bucks to make his dealership look like all the other dealerships around the country if he wanted to keep his location.

Personally, I think chain locations were bad enough to begin with. Now they can't even have any uniqueness in their building either.

Fins, the West Jefferson franchise holders are Don and Maryanne Moore operating as Sterling Inc. the real estate may in fact be held by the McDonald's corporation real estate department, which is ironically the most profitable section of the McDonald's empire. That is not an unusual occurrence in the McDonalds world.

Jack, It is true that some stores gut and remodel, McDonalds Corporate has been pushing their franchise holders to replace/renovate the stores to a current standard based on corporate designs, minimum square footage formulas based on market size and demographics, and historical and projected volumes.

walking Mom, while the part-time turn over is high, when compared to the rest of the stores in this region and in the US the West Jefferson store's employee retention rate is one of the best, performing well above the median.

Reading this deed McDonald realestate corp. owned the building and land and there was an unrecorded lease that was enacted in 1995 and was up in 2018 that the two local people had. The golden arches are now owned by MaDonalds in Chicago. This may help explain why the joint is so poorly run.

The real estate owner and the franchise owner doesn't have to be the same

McDonald's is owned by McDonald's.

Only, who is the owner then?

I've seen plenty of fast food establishments do complete guts and remodel in the same building without actually tearing the building down.

They can rebuild the store in the foot print. Most close the inside and only have the the drive thru open but do have to close up completely for a short period. They could tear it down and build back on the same foot print. I am sure the joint has been given options and mandates by the head MFIC's.

The franchise holders in Ashe County are a single store operation. McDonalds' Corporate often pushes the franchise holders to renovate and/or rebuild their stores to meet the most current style and theme. These mandates are funded by the franchise holder not McDonalds' Corporate. The West Jefferson store is in a difficult position, to tear down and rebuild in the same location, with the footprint that will service the current and projected volume, would require that some property to the west of the current site be acquired. That property is owned by the same crowd that owns the rest of the shopping plaza. The shopping plaza owners are not interested in selling, thus the price of the needed property is very high to say the least. You end up in a stalemate at that point.

The West Jefferson McDonalds is an award winning operation in the McDonalds world, low worker turnover, high number of employees who successfully move into management tracks at the local store and in other franchise locations. McDonalds food is McDonalds food, you get what you get, the speed of the service is within the benchmarks for this type of store in the McDonalds world, the very newest stores with all the automated cooking equipment, drink robots, two order lines and three pickup windows are at times even slower on the drive thru lane metrics than to older style stores due to the stronger cook to order process that this automation dictates.

As has been mentioned if you don't like the food or service, keep driving on by.

They've rebuilt the one in Boone at least twice since that one was built. Has it ever been re done? Isn't it the same owners?

Its likely approaching the time for the building to be torn down and a new on built.

I will tell y'all, the McDonalds in Banner Elk is worse. They are faster, but never get your order right. And I'm pretty sure they are afraid of someone getting burned and suing, because I've never had a fry from them that was barely over room temp.

Whether there are 2 cars in the drive thru or 10, it always takes 10-20 minutes to go through the drive thru. It's the only McDonalds I've been to in a long time that still has the old screen, not digital, and 1-lane drive through. We will soon have the most 'retro' McDonalds in the country.

while I agree that they are slow I think part of the problem is the OP thinks they are fine cuisine.

Frequent complaints to various managers and to the owner about the lousy customer service were a waste of time and energy, I stopped going there years ago, and boy did that **** off my grandkids...
