Jack, I think it takes only 30 days to then declare residency. But if you live in more than one place, the one you are at the most is supposed to legally be your residence. I thought though your voter registration and drivers license were supposed to match. And many students keep their parents address on their drivers license because they are still on their insurance.

Medicaid expansion states have seen their economy and subsequent tax revenues increase at a great rate than non-expansion states. The original expansion legislation had the Federal match equal to 100% of the increased cost of coverage for the additional individuals provided coverage, that match has now been reduced to the standard match for the particular state in question. the North Carolina match is approximately 70/30, 70% Federal money 30% State funds. https://www.kff.org/...arch-2018/

If you make owning a home and paying a poll tax part of voting you can get rid of many "undesirables" from the local voting rolls.

I really thought in NC to establish resident you had to live there 6 continuous months. Regardless a college full of liberal snot nosed kids should not be able to control a local election.

He doesn't.

Also those that can't afford it that are working are not being told what to do when they go to the exchange. Many of them are opting for Bronze Packages when they can get a Silver with much reduced out of pocket and deductibles.

In the ACA the Silver Packages reduce the deductible and out of pocket as well as reduce cost of the monthly premium. For less than most working poor spend for their cell phone each month you can get coverage. The Bronze packages have very low premiums even lower than the Silver with the discount but the Bronze packages don't get the reduced out of pocket or deductible which can be 10 times the Silver plan after the reduction for the Silver plan. This is only for the working poor who would be included in the Medicaid package.

Incidentally a lot of places don't take Medicaid, so it's a political move that really does nothing for most people.

Personally I think if we must keep the government in the health care business (which is I feel a violation of the Constitution as that right is not given to the federal government) then actually the better way to do it would be to take the frame of the ACA, and dump everyone onto it, poor, Indian, rich, government, military, elderly......end Medicare, Medicaid, Native American Care, Tri Care, Government Care, etc, and put everyone on the same system. What makes it so inefficient is the government runs to many competing programs such that not enough people are on any one to make it solvent. **** the Native Americans say not to get sick past June because Congress routinely funds their health care (required by treaty) at about half of what it actually costs so by July the tribes depending on that run out.

When did Ashe or Watauga become a "large" community?

It's also a big cost savings to get rid of elementary education since the little brats aren't working. Why should anyone have to pay for the education of someone else. Once you have yours, you should not have to involuntarily contribute to anyone else.

It's all just big gubmint Communisim.

Back in the old days these kids worked the farm and when they sassed you, you could just beat the **** out of them or marry off the girls at 12 or 13. The good ole days.

It is primarily a state issue...and we have a very "friendly" state supreme court...sorry

I doubt the supreme court realized that a student body could control the election of such a large community.

Closing down AMH ought to be one of the chief goals of all the locals. Then you can drive to Boone or Winston Salem and see that cheaper doctor.

While the first challenge was in Greenville, and upheld by the Fourth Circuit CCA, it was the case from Prairie View Texas that the Supreme Court heard, and issued its mandate.

College student voting rights have been challenged many times. Originally in Greenville SC, all the way to the Supreme Court of the United States. You can read the decision by googling SYMM VS US 439 US 1105 (1979). In essence, they may register and vote in either domicile. Not both.

Its pretty obvious that living in a dorm room is not their permanent home when they are forced to leave during break.

They should never be allowed to vote in their college town. Their mailing address and drivers license says they live at mommy and daddys outside of our voting district. They will be gone home all the while controlling our representative. I am truly shocked no one with a law degree hasn't challenged this practice. The liberal university and town got what they wanted. He will only be a lame duck.

And why is that something to be thankful about? Because your party couldn’t win otherwise? Because grown adults with responsibilities and life experience don’t want to vote for the party that wants working people to pay more to keep up people that don’t want to work?

"I believe if you live in a dorm you shouldn't be able to vote in local election..." thankfully the law thinks otherwise!

I don't know anyone that fears education nor do I care what a bunch of high school kids think who have yet to learn how the real world works. Lots of things sound great when you are in high school and don't have to worry about paying for rent, food, electric, and so on.

If you take a look at the election map you will see that the only districts that Russell won are in Boone and around the college. The only way for that to happen was if the college kids voted for him. I believe if you live in a dorm you shouldn't be able to vote in local election since its not your permanent address. Like wise if you rent a place and don't change your driver license to your local address you should be able to vote. People who fall into those two category's need to vote in their home town

"Yeah he only got elected because ASU Students are allow to vote in local elections instead of voting in their home town."

Makes it sound like they were given a special privilege! Hmmm... I wonder why so many young, educated students voted for Ray Russell??? ACMS students experienced both candidates at the Middle School debate, guess who won the school election. I sense the right fears education.
