Say No to Dix

The Mole

My thought is McNeill will be chair, because he received so many votes. It would be hard to put Sands back in as chair since he received the lowest number of votes, plus there has been sooo much turmoil under him. Of course, McNeill may not want it. The old board started the asphalt plant mess and it's not settled yet. I think that will get even more ugly before it's through. My thought is the old board just wanted to keep the asphalt plant tied up in court until 221 was finished.

I think the voters made good decisions with commission. Both McNeill and Dix as basically new and new faces on the board. Sands wasn't tied to the Rose, Perry, Fudd bunch but still had his issues. If he can redeem himself in two years he may get re-elected. Otherwise there will be a new face for him in two years.

This election proves again unless you are unopposed, running as a Democrat in Ashe County is now DOA.

So who'll be the new board chairperson? McNeill? Rhodes? Dix?

Congrats to Commissioner Dix!

I like Dix!

But I am voting for Dix. I've met him and he's a nice level-headed guy, which is exactly what this county needs right now.

You all need to get out more. The dump lawsuit originated under Patty Mitchell. The planning board lawsuit was the county commissioners suit to dispute a ruling of the planning board, which county commissioners appointed. Seems to me the county commissioners could have avoided that one by doing a better job of appointing members to their planning board. And I think everyone already knows that the sheriff is an elected official and, by state law, is solely over the operation of the jail, so a county manager has no authority at all at the jail. From what I heard, I'm pretty sure he would have stopped Southern Justice if he could. A realtor friend said the show had a terrible impact on the real estate industry. I think right now we have a manger that is even less experienced.

Thanks Jack. I forgot about those.
Pot - I realize the Asphalt plant and the jail are a little far reaching. However his relationship (in bed with) Buchanan certainly added to the atmosphere that blew up Buchanan's head and problems in the jail and many other places. If nothing else a county manager should be the chief advisor to the commissioners and the boss of the planning director and he was dead in the middle of the asphalt plant dispute.
The bottom line is the commissioners hired an inexperienced county manager and sheriff who's egos ran wild. They are all guilty in my book especially the commissioners.

Lets see Potashe, he was in a waterline lawsuit, a fire department shut down, a dump lawsuit, a couple of animal control lawsuits and fines. The list is longer potty.

WRONG. Gosh, the stupid is really coming out before the election. Wolf, go back to the woods. Everyone knows he is not responsible for jail problems. He also is not responsible for commissioners decisions on plant. He worked FOR the commisioners.

Jack, give me an example of some of the lawsuits Sam is responsible for. Sounds to me the real damage to the county was when Williams was in charge at the SO and when he decided to retire early. I know of NO Sam related lawsuits.

Have you all ever watched Cops? Anyone who has watched both it and SJ would think Ashe must be a wonderful Mayberry like place compared to what goes on in larger, more populated areas. I know plenty of Ashe residents who enjoyed watching the show. One drive down Jefferson Avenue any day of the week shows it didn't have a negative effect on tourism.

OK, scratch what I said about the viewer numbers for southern justice. I decided to do a little digging and found that it ranked 46 in cable TV shows for 2016. (That doesn’t include any shows on major networks). For the number of cable shows that exist, that’s pretty high. It was higher than Anderson Cooper.

Thanks a lot James.

Anyone that says they can't vote for a Democrat or a Republican should not be allowed to vote.

I didn't think Howell was democrat. Don't know his father or mom.

Whatnot, if you look at the records, Howell's father is a democrat and his mother is a lifelong republican. There you go.

Are you saying Howell is a democrat also?
