School bus problems and long rides

Sounds like a bus driver blowing their own horn. Notice where they are from.

Seeing all the cars lined up around the elementary and middle schools every morning and afternoon makes me wonder if any kids even ride school buses these days. It seems like a giant waste of time, energy, and gasoline to drive children to school when the county sends a bus within walking distance of a student's front yard. So, who's the snowflake here--the child or the parent? (And for all you Greenies out there, think of all that air pollution you're adding to the ozone hole!)

Funny all the times I've heard of the cameras needed to be pulled to view something the info was right there. Some kids have been in deep trouble for lying to mommy and daddy about their actions on the bus. I lived in town growing up and I was still on the bus at least 3 hours a day. My parents didn't whine to the school board.

Tabs you would think that would be a no brainier in regards to the chains. The parents caught the school employees with their pants down. They had no idea some clown had issued a bus with no drop down chains to the Pond Mtn route.

I know there is no way to please every parent in the county and that schools are located according to population. But it seems to me the buses with the most difficult winter routes should be given priority when it comes to installing drop-down chains.

If you can only afford to live at Pond Mountain maybe you need to use birth control

The four hour bus ride is the parents fault

How about if the school board bought a couple of vans with 4 wheel drive and used them in Pond Mtn?

I might suggest a PO box in Tennessee and enroll the crumb ****ers there.

You all can laugh but kids on buses for this long is a big deal. I agree. Parents need to know where they choose to live, but all are not given family land and have to buy where they can afford.

All public school kids should be able to come to school and ride a bus and not have to ride for 4 hours.

And to ashehikingmom, cameras are technology. I am sure they only work some of the time.

I would say that Yates is the leader. She obviously rode around with one of the men who spoke and he was not happy so came to the School Board. LACK OF LEADERSHIP. This is with threats, buses, people, and skills.

What is she doing to fix the bussing problems?

I would have assumed those that moved over to scary Creston and Pond Mtn. did so to live off the grid. That means if they started breeding the children would be home schooled.

I read a post on another site that came from a parent saying that she didn't trust the sheriffs department to protect her children once they reached the 7th grade and she would then home school them. You tell me where she came from. Then she should be told that its not the sheriffs departments job to protect her children.

What these outsiders don’t understand, there is a reason thst most of us have always left these areas to the clans. You

Maybe some of the posters complaining about long bus rides should have considered that before moving to those areas, or having kids that would have to ride that far.

This is the fault of women’s equality. Back when men were bus drivers, if the weather got bad, the driver pulled over and he and a couple older kids put chains on and kept going.

Liberals are emasculating our nation.

You all know what the difference now vs then is dont you? These are not your home grown Ashe county people complaining about so many delays and calling off school when there is not a flake on the roads. No these are your transplants that think they still live in the flat lands. They moved up here on summer day.

When I went to school in the county we had alternate bus routes and yes many of those areas complaining were not given bus service in inclement weather. What constitutes inclement weather has changed greatly though, I see many days they never would have called off school when I was in school. Unfortunately they have to be so careful because of the sue happy public, the same people that complain that their poor baby wasn't picked up will be the very ones that sue if they are picked up and are injured in a bus accident due to the weather.

I do believe they need to ensure all the buses have chains though, and if necessary have the drivers that can put them on well train those that can't so that all can learn to do it.

Even before the combination of the schools some had long rides. I do believe these are elementary school kids not high school. The elementary schools were combined years before the high schools.

I was really shocked kids from Pond Mountain even went to school. There was no mention of scary Creston so I assume none of those kids attend school.

This is just another example of how combining all the schools was a mistake.
