So when do you think the state will take over the ACSO?

Cold, that’s the only sensible statement you’ve made on this site.

One thing stands to reason, no matter who lands the job they will never please every citizen of the county...

After the first pick it is really scary to contemplate what the BOC would consider qualified to clean up the mess at the ACSO.

Only, pay no attention to Clod, it would be a much better appointment than the last one they made.

I don't think it is all that crazy, James has already made it clear that he has no interest in another term as sheriff He is qualified and has the faith of the population as indicated by his election results. That decision gives the talking heads on the hill some cover for the screw up they made of their last appointment.

How about asking James to come out of retirement,, or even go to one of the other applicants for the position when it was open previously?

I don't see one, much less two of them being convicted..

What are you going to do when he and Clayton are convicted?

Just chill your engines, the man is innocent till proven guilty. In the meantime Clayton can run things just fine..

Ahhh, I see my error. Jefferson's chief is David Neaves.

I would certainly not appoint anyone in the current chain of command if I was the County Commissioners, of course if they had any sense they wouldn't have appointed Buchanan in the first place.
Hendrix might be a safe choice. He's already announced his running, and he has goodwill from heading the Hospital Police.
If they appoint Rose there won't be any of them keeping their seats.
Who's chief of police in Jefferson these days? It's such a small force though I'm not sure that would be a good appointment.

After the official select had his way we do not have much left. Anderson and Stevens have turned in their retirement papers and been recognized by the BOC. I think all the rest have less than 2 years experience in Ashe.

I think if Clayton is appointed the state should come in and kick his *** back to Durham.
The appointed sheriff should be the highest ranking deputy at the ACSO, Meaning the deputy with the most time. Anyone else is not going to benefit the department.

Another option to consider is the U.S. Marshals Service. They already have authority to enforce ANY State Law. For them to move a couple dozen people around on a moments notice is no big deal for them.

I bet the commissioners have to ask......so that the pay is assured.
