Plenty of airports are private, Mr Hankey, and have no safety issues. God, you're so blinded by your love of socialism and big government, you're too stupid to know that the FAA has regulations that private strips must still adhere to. You're life must be really pathetic that you are so angry at private business you want government to control every aspect of life.

Oh dear dog you didn't read my post carefully now did you? I said we are paying less PER AMBULANCE. I will spare you the very simple math as I'm sure you can do it.

I didnt say sell the parks and I know who they belong to. I said let the clubs run them. Their budget is over 700,000 a year. You cant even use them but 6 months a year or less.

The parks belong to the people of Ashe county and should remain that way.

As to the airport if it should become privatized they would be looking for ways to cut costs which would inevitably mean cutting corners on safety.

Oh and son did you not think the dog would do some research? The last year blue ridge and poe got just shy of 800,000 for 2 units. The first year of Sullivan got 950,000 for 3 units so your smoke blowing just blew up. Btw this year Sullivan got 988,000. Ahhhh so close to a million.

Life saving ambulances are worth every dime. the landing strip should be sold period. the parks should be run by clubs.

Now how about the information I know you have? You may pm it.

So your logic is just because we wasting it over there let's waste it everywhere? I bet if the parks and airport were put out to bid and taken private it would cost tax payers way less and be done better.

Your support for Sullivan is admirable but the employees you claim must not have ever worked anywhere else and haven't thought about retirement. You are worried about spending county money when its wasted each day on a landing strip and 3/4 million on park employees each year. How many planes have you been on out of the airport?

Ppll you obviously have the answers to my questions. I cant make any kind of informed decision without the figures and you cant either.

btw all those letters were from paramedics that are members of the fire clubs.

If there is, then someone should be able to provide the info.

If I am not mistaken there is a full on audit required and submitted to the county each year.

Actually yes, for certain government jobs, contractors have to go through audits. But in this case, the reason the questions are relevant are first, are patients being over charged? Since Sullivan has a protected monopoly, yes, the county has a right to ask this. Similar to the state approving BREMCO rate increases. And the second reason is to answer if the county could provide such a service cheaper. The only way to determine that is to figure out how many calls and how much revenue is generated.

Oh and I know several of the employees and they tell me the pay and benefits are the best they have ever had. If that even matters, if Vannoy's wins a bid to build a road or a school has anyone ever asked these same questions? If there were a problem with the service sure there may be a case to ask but I don't think this is about that? From all accounts the service is solid and the county is paying the same amount of money now that they were paying back in 2014 which was when it was put out to bid. I can't think of any County department ever having the same budget without increases for the last 8 years.

Has anyone ever thought of just calling Ashe Medics and or Sullivan and asking? I don't see why it matters Sullivan is clearly doing it cheaper than anyone else and way cheaper than what the county could do it for. There are no issues that have been brought to light. When a contractor bids a job and gets the contract no one asks to see there books or numbers how is this any different?

Pple, you still didn't answer dogs question. He wants to know how many calls is Ashe Medics running per year and how much are they billing per call to the patients. He already has what the county is paying.

From what I hear this is all coming from 1 commissioner who has a family member that is a paramedic and she needs 10 more years of service with Ashe county to be able to retire. So let's all spend millions more in tax dollars and lower the quality of service just so one person can get to retire on the county dime. The one commissioner pushing this was appointed not even elected.

So here are some answers for you all (all of this is public record if you care to dig a little). Ashe medics receives approx. $980,000 per year from ashe County, which is less per ambulance than the county was paying 10 years ago when Poe had it. For comparison to a county ran system: Avery County has been mentioned they are of similar size and call volume Avery county currently pays well over $2 million dollars per year and Ashe Medics is a much better service then Avery and Ashe county has none of the liability, headache, or long term costs of benefits for staff.

My sources tell me all the fire departments are extremely happy with the current service so much so they all sent letters of support for Ashe Medics to the commissioners recently.
If the county decides to do this it is just a way to try and grow the county gov. It for sure will not be to improve the service or lessen the cost to tax payers.

Can someone send me the number of calls a year and what the current charges are? Pm me and my sources all remain anonymous.

You know creek Judy Poe is more crooked then all the wrinkles she has and thats why she was beat back in 2 elections. Its common knowledge Elmer Fudd was crooked and Gerry was just stupid.
