The Hotel Tavern

I've got a feeling that no one is going to win on this one. I expect to see the hotel for sale again in a year

Tabs and I are on the same page. I think the clown owner has already started making life miserable for the Tavern. Remember that the only in and out of the hotel is at the rear where the tavern uses the door way and bottom of the steps for their hostess and they cross back and fourth drinks from the bar. So watch for the clown to start making life heck for the Tavern.

I still say and I am still betting that the Tavern is kicking themselves for not buying the building.

I don't think the zoning is an issue. I thought I saw something once about a historic structure can be restored to original use without a zoning variance.

If they win he most likely wont be able to do any renovations that affect their business until their lease is up. Then there is the zoning issue that someone talked about earlier.

I can't see a scenario where the Tavern comes out a winner in this. How can they operate a restaurant while he is in there doing renovations? He will make their life **** if they stay.

Might as well cut their losses and find another location.

That only happens if you win. You still have to pay the attorney upfront and risk not getting it back. For most it won't be worth it

I'd probably go to a lawyer if I was them given this dirty trick and force him to pay them for their contracts....

I doubt it's worth it to any others to go through the expense to sue. They can probably find office space easier than dealing with court.

Other than the 1 mentioned in the ashe county line article I've not paid attention either so I'm not sure.

I've never paid attention to who is in the second floor. Anyone know who the other tenants are?

I think I'd sue for breach of contract if I was the occupants....all of them....or file briefs in the existing lawsuit asking to join it. Though I'm not sure you'd want them all combined into one lawsuit. This guy has made it clear he doesn't care about the county, it's current residents, etc. Not to mention that location still isn't zoned property for what he wants and I suspect all these people he's pissing off will show up and make sure he can never get it rezoned......

OK, accents always make jokes funnier. Especially when the joke is playing on stereotypes. I expected you to be smart enough to know that. I guess some stereotypes aren't true.

Jewish accent? Explain. I'm Jewish and my family has been here since the 18th century.

If I had a lease in that building I would not move out and any contractor they hired to move my stuff would get sued.

It's more like 90% don't meet current codes. And they don't have to unless you renovate 51% of the building. I believe that is 51% of the value though, so it can be easier to hit that than you might assume. But I would expect any engineer to know this and not try to use that to deem a structure unsafe.

I bet half the buildings in Ashe don't meet current code ( actually I bet more than half.....)

I didn't see anything in the article over at Ashe county line other than the building didn't meet current building codes. That in its self doesn't mean its unsafe this guy is trying to play dirty maybe the good old boy system here needs to show him how the game is played.

Btw, when you tell that open in person, it works best if you do it with Jewish accents.

Two guys were sitting on the beach and started talking. One guy asked the other guy, "how did you make your money?"

The guy answers "I had a business, but there was a fire. I got a big settlement from the insurance company, and at my age, decided to retire instead of opening the business again. What about you?"

The first guy says, "mine is pretty similar. I had a little business too. But we were wiped out by a flood. When I got the insurance settlement, I decided to retire too"

Second guy didn't say anything for a minute, then looked over and asked, "how do you start a flood?"
