First, I’ve seen nothing about him to set him apart from Dix, Miller of Cox. Throw him in the bag and mix them up and we will flip three coins to decide. But the big problem with him is he will be ineffective. While many of the votes in the past have had a predictable 3 to 2 outcome, with all 5 being of the same party, there is a possibility of swinging one to change their opinion. But a single Democrat will be hung out in the wind, completely unable to get anyone to side with them, for fear of retaliation from the party.

And you could not vote for a proven common sence guy like Blackburn because he is a Democrat?

Let me stress this point again. Larry made the list on a coin toss. He’s done nothing to earn the endorsement over the Miller or Cox

For those wondering about Larry Dix.....I've known him for some time. He has been in Ashe County for some time. I believe he had previously worked in the Easley administration in Raleigh. He has been involved in the Democratic Party until recently. He has also run for county wide office previously as a Democrat. The combination of being a Democrat in Ashe County and relatively unknown was more than his previous candidacies could survive.

Larry has recently switched to the Republican party. He is in my opinion one of the middle of the road individuals in the Republican party. He is not of the hard right or tea party movement. He is very well spoken and well educated. He worked for a number of years in the school system, and still coaches tennis at the high school. I personally think he would be a very safe choice and would govern similarly to Commissioners Rhodes or Sands. I don't see any red flags in his character and feel the voters could do MUCH worse.

I found the sample ballot for the Democratic primary in Ashe and the only office to vote on is The US District House race. The choices are Jenny Marshall or DD Adams. The other Democratic candidates are unopposed until the November election.

Oh crap! Flames, you caught a major error. Thank you. When looking over info, I saw that Shirley Randleman is an incumbent. So I was thinking she was Dan Soucek’s replacement, which was picked by Franklin. Dan was also a Samaritan’s Purse employee. But what slipped my mind is that because of the redistricting, both Randleman and Ballard are currently encumbered, that had their districts changed to cause them both now to be running for the same seat. I had them backwards.

Down In flames is correct. The endorsement should have been for Shirley Randleman because Ballard is the hand puppet of Franklin Graham.

Fins,
You do realize that Deanna Ballard is the Director of Public Policy for Samaritan's Purse right? I was all for her until I learned that.

I heard Ballard has been all over the towns. I think she is the best choice however if she gets in office she better respond to emails.

Joe I have to agree with fins on Howell, he is the best choice out of all parties running for sheriff. Besides Howell and his pick for chief deputy do have hot wives. Very attractive.

Well, not everyone is perfect. Don’t get discouraged over one unreturned email. Try her again

I was going to vote for Deanna Ballard but she didn't reply to an email I sent her a couple of weeks ago. If Shirley Randleman wins the primary I will hold my nose and vote for the Democrat in November.

I like your other picks.

Well, Joe, as I said, there was much consideration and research put into these selections. Especially for the candidate of sheriff. Initially, I completely agreed with your opinion. But as I started comparing choices, I didn’t feel there was another choice that was as well qualified. So, I started digging into the shooting issue and, let’s just say, I know he’s been questioned about the issue. Now, in my opinion, Howell learned from that situation and regrets the way it took place. But even more important, I really don’t think he ever expected to have a gung-ho coward come racing in and jump out shooting without first finding out what was going on. And ultimately, an election is a choice of the lesser evils, no matter who is running.

I can agree with everyone except maybe Dix. I don't know him at all and we've not heard from these candidates. If they really want the job of commissioner, they should at least do a little campaigning.

I can agree on everyone but Howell his very pour judgment in the Houck shooting lead to a man being killed. That's not the type of person we need or should want as sheriff.

There are dems running for us senate, state senate, state house, commissioners, and sheriff.

Is there even a Democrat ballot for the primary in Ashe? I mean are any of the races contested? I know there are only two D candidates for Commissioner and one for sheriff, so is there any reason to go to the polls if you are registered as a Dem?

I have a policy if you've served 2 or more terms already I vote against you. You might be a good person, but we have lots of great people, and we need to impose term limits on politicians. It's sad that someone gets in and makes a career of a political career. They should follow Washington more than Adams on that in my opinion, 2 terms and that's enough.

My mother refuses to vote for anyone who's running unopposed.

You get to vote......and so do I. Looks like some of these will end in a draw between us. I also realize that your friends outnumber mine in this district. I may not get my way but I will have my say.

God help us, the last thing we need are anymore liberal judges. I’m pretty sure some of them have never even read the constitution.

I am also voting for Horner for DA. I have known him for years. Wonderful human being. That he brought charges against Bufurt.....might be eligible for sainthood. I will of course vote for the Democrats in the judicial, state and federal elections.

That's the thing about a vote......it is mine to spend as I please. You showed me yours.....I showed you mine. Have a great weekend.
