Water is one of the biggest blockers for radio signals. Tree leaves are like 95% water. (I’m roughly guessing the percentage from what I remember of high school biology). One of the biggest issues for reception around here can be leaves com8ng out in the spring. I know of places where I can use my phone in the winter that I can’t in the summer. And if you are in an area where the signal is weak and a lot of patchy tree cover, then wind might cause a problem for you. But that’s pretty unheard of in cell signals. I have seen it as a common problem with satellite tv service if a tree has grown out and the wind causes a limb to move around in front of the dish.

First, they condescending attitude of some of their customer service reps, most do not have a clue, second tier phones, is that enough for starters? I was in their office one day and another customer was there complaining about the service coming and going. Customer service rep told them it was probably because of the wind blowing.

My only problem with CWW is the crap phones they sell I usually have to get two or three before I get one that works right.

I have been known for slamming the bremco administration and that fact has not changed. However thank god the employees that actually do the work such as the customer service and the linemen are in my opinion the best. So just why is Carolina West so bad?

Interesting that it came up so recently. I went back and found the original release from CWW and it was 2011 that the deal was made.

Fins I saw the blurb last week when reading about the Wilkes EDC meeting. Someone from Carolina's Worst Wireless was talking about a new agreement with Verizon concerning 4G and LTE

Flash, isn’t that article several years old? Verizon is now advertising rolling out 5g.

The problem is good customer service doesn’t help if you have no service.

Come to think of it, my great grandson has AT&T and when he visits he has no issues with reception. Might just be a dead zone?

I find it comical hearing all the flat lands visitors whine and moan that AT&T wont work out of town.

Fins, I skimmed an article last week that talked about Verizon and CWW and the addition of 4G LTE to CWW customers.

If you don't care about lack of competent customer service, go with CWW. If you want good customer service go with Verizon

I got into the gin early and played through. This wasn’t top shelf gin either. This was more like paint thinner with juniper flavoring. I become enraged and paranoid when I drink that East End schwill.

You two quit giving out bad information. I use both Verizon and Carolina West. So let me correct some things.

First, let’s address one thing. Both Verizon and Carolina West use the same technology. So if one has service, the other has service. They both are CDMA with LTE data. Btw, US Cellular uses the same technology. (We will get back to this later)

Second, Verizon has no towers of their own or official service in Ashe County. You can’t get a Verizon number for Ashe. You have to go to Boone or Wilkes. Also, if over 50% of your calls originate from a nonverizon territory, they can start charging you roaming fees. So if you rarely leave the county, you could have issues.

Third, both carriers throttle back the data connection for customers from other companies. So if you have a Verizon phone and have it in Ashe, instead of it getting LTE data (the fastest data currently available) your phone will be knocked back to 1x data. I originally thought this was only CWW doing this to Verizon phones, but I’ve realized it goes both ways.

Now, here’s where it can get fuzzy, remember what I said about the same technology and if one has a signal they all have a signal? Well, the problem is if both companies have overlapping coverage. Let’s say you have Verizon, and you are in an area with only 1 bar of Verizon service but CWW has full service. Your phone will stick to Verizon, which may not be enough service to work. The problem goes both ways. So this is how you can end up at times in an area where one company can’t make a call and the other can. But again, Verizon doesn’t have towers in Ashe. So if you are going to be using the phone in the county mostly, CWW is a better option. Unfortunately though, they do not allow WiFi calling.

I use Verizon, works perfectly. I know a few who use USCellular and they’ve no complaints. FWIW, I used CWW for a bit a few years ago and the service was very spotty, esp in No Man’s Land, where service is essential for survival.

Go with Verizon. Seems to work most places in the county.
