What is up with the Ashe County highway?

Tell that to the owners of those art galleries and antique stores in West Jefferson. That just shows the narrow minded and selfishness of yourself. Just because your simple little life does not see the benefits of bringing people in to Ashe, but those owners do. Just because life dealt you a bad hand does not mean it will not benefit those that have to drive that crappy road everyday.
Look at the ****g numbers, 9000 motorist per day, more than 421 from Deep gap to Wilkes, and From Deep Gap to Boone its only 13000 per day. That shows how many people have to drive out of the county for work and other services. Its the economic lifeline of the county already, but you are to simple to understand that.

But y’all don’t want outsiders here, right? So it will make it easier for Ashe residents to get to Boone for work.

Potential Benefits?
What Potential Benefits?
What in the county would attract more tourists? Shatley Springs? not in its state of disrepair Art Galleries? there are dozens of these in scores of little Appalachian towns Antique Stores? same as with the Art Galleries Leaf Looking? Seriously folks looking to look at leaves aren't looking for 4 lane roads, that detracts from their enjoyment, sides most of the leaf lookers are on the way out (that is they are dying off).
The county has no major tourist attractions. (The ones it does have like Mt Jefferson, New River State Park and Elk Knob State park are woefully undeveloped compared to the ones just across the state border in Virginia). It's level of poverty is to high and educational level to low to attract any major industries.
The four lane road is just a politician pipe dream that will not overly benefit the county for the next 20 years.....because there is simply not enough here to entice folks to come to our county, much of our tourists are overflow from Boone. That's all we really are.

Then you are not very intelligent either. Pure traffic volume justifies the highway even before the potential benefits.

I agree it's largely a highway to nowhere.

It's a highway to nowhere, so why should anything about it make sense?

I think maybe you celebrated the New Year a bit to much and started a bit to soon.
Roads take time to build. While some work can be done in the winter, most of the paving etc requires warmer temperatures. So depending on how the weather goes this winter I don't expect a lot of progress until at least end of March/April.

Doesn't look like a highway to me, on the way to Boone. No one cares to know what is going on. Pathetic.
