I think that this can pass the senate, however the house is a different story. However this is a short term fix that only kicks the problem down the road for a couple of years.

My point in posting was that we have a few in congress that try to compromise. Unfortunate that only makes up maybe 10-15 seats. The rest are slaves to their party.

In principle means almost nothing. You'd have to get a majority of Senators who haven't even agreed to pass a budget yet (or at any time in the last 6 years).

People are panicking left and right because the news media is driving it through fear. Nothing Trump signed in the executive order affects 2018, and given the slothful pace of Federal regulations it's almost certain they wouldn't affect 2019. I believe the courts will throw out most of his executive order with the exception of the subsidy payments to insurance companies to reduce the deductibles and out of pocket since that is not authorized by the ACA. (However the insurance companies still have to lower them).

"Sens. Lamar Alexander and Patty Murray have reached a deal "in principle" to restore Obamacare cost-sharing reduction payments for two years in exchange for more state flexibility in Obamacare"

One great thing that Trump’s change is supposed to have added is to allow trade organizations to create buying groups for insurance. So for example the Home Builders Association should be able to shop plans for their members like they do with liability insurance. And trades like restaurant workers can form groups now for buying power.

The letters are just arriving for those that dont qualify for a subsidy with blue cross which is the only carrier except for 5 counties around Raleigh. Rates for a married couple are 2250 bucks a month. Thats amounts to buying a 25 thousand dollar car in 12 months.

Old blue cross polices were protected until 2018. They are no longer available. Those letters went out back in the summer to policy holders which were self employed persons.

I always felt the “pass it then figure out what’s in it” killed any chance the original idea had at getting any cooperation from republicans that did want to reform healthcare.

Actually there is a lot of false information out there concerning the subsidies. Many people think that these are the tax credit subsidies that individuals get on the marketplace. These subsidies lower the out of pocket cost on the individual plans. The idea behind cutting those is to force the insurance companies to pick up that cost, which we all know is not going to happen. In turn the companies have sent out letters informing their customers that to keep their plan they may see up to a 400% increase in premiums much higher than the 20-27 percent that most would have seen.

I do agree that these subsidies need to go away, I just don't agree on the method. Congress needs to get off their *** and stabilize the markets. Obamacare has many faults, and they knew it but the idea was to force it through and fix later. We are feeling the effects of the bill not being fixed. And Trump is right, we are giving handouts to the insurance companies, but those handouts stabilized the markets in the short term. Nothing has been done to fix the markets and its not as easy as repealing as many think. Also, with all the faults, there are many good aspects of Obamacare, but it was not sustainable without further action. It never should have passed, but here we are.

There is plenty good about trump. Most of it is that he’s not Hillary. As for killing subsidies, that’s like taking away the heart monitor on a comatose patient. The healthcare system is screwed either way. And after 4 years of rising prremiums each year, most people that were receiving the subsidies couldn’t afford insurance any way. And it’s the same way in states that set up their own exchanges. The big problem is there have so far only been two options. The left pushing Marxist style healthcare and the right defending large companies that want to collect premiums for years then dump customers if they get sick.

Insurance companies shouldn’t get to decide what they will pay after services have been rendered. They should have to pay doctors and hospitals in a timely manner. And if hospitals and doctors gouge prices, prosecute them under the same laws that prevent businesses from gouging during a natural disaster.

Also, open up competition. A couple weeks ago a liberal associate of mine who thinks a single payer system is the only answer was raving about how India and other countries are creating medical tourism industries and offering travel and medical procedures for fractions of the cost in the us. I pointed out that’s capitalism and a free market which he and his wife have opposed here.

It has taken 8 short months to make America a laughing stock, taken us to the brink of war, caused more hate and discontent, is destroying the first amendment. He is not a president, he is a dictator and I hope the people that support him realize they are not immune from his actions.
