41 years ago this week, Tie a Yellow Ribbon Round the Old Oak Tree became the number 1 song on the pop charts. The yellow ribbon had long been a symbol of support for absent or loved ones, but it emerged into U.S. consciousness thanks to the Tony Orlando and Dawn song. Later, the spontaneous appearance of yellow ribbons throughout the country joyously welcomed the U.S. hostages home after 444 days of captivity in Iran. In a parable, Jesus spoke of a son who had left his father and eventually returned. The father could not contain his joy and commanded in Luke 15:23-24, "And bring the fattened calf and kill it, and let us eat and celebrate. For this my son was dead, and is alive again; he was lost, and is found. And they began to celebrate." Jesus says God the Father rejoices whenever an unbeliever turns to Him through Jesus the Son.
