Last time I checked there were one or more taxi services in Ashe that could respond to last minute calls.

I would respond Dog, but we would go way off topic. However, I like your response.

Do you really think those baptist churches are going to let those big shinny buses with dual chrome wheels and nice clean cloth seats haul persons that ride the Ashe transportation vans? Ask one and watch how uncomfortable they get and the lies start flowing from their lips.

I agree, it's not a taxi service. All a person needs is a little planning.

to; Heels09. in other states the policy for local rural (county pop less than 40,000) transit is much the same as the new policy. Plan ahead the day before to schedule a ride. Their primary focus is people with regualr transport needs to medical appointments, shopping, or work. I would bet that it is not that they don't understand the need, it's more about a constraint of resources. Limited number of drivers and financial budget do not allow for extra driver's and vans to sit around waiting to be called out. Your single need for a ride, does not translate to on-demand need for everyone. Ask the ACTA for data on how many last minute calls they get. Chances are they could not justify the resource for the demand. A shrinking work base, lower tax revenues all translate to tighter budgets for small programs like the transportation vans. My suggestion; network with other groups like your religious church, or other group and develop a list of persons who are willing to be taxi driver's to help you out. Maybe a taxi service in the county could find a reason to open up?

The way I see it, people are lucky enough to have a transportation option like the ACTA. The problem is people who are calling in at 10am and need to be picked up at 11am, but the van is on the other side of the county. At least people who don't drive have another option. Don't look a gift-horse in the mouth.

From what I can find, no. It was old data, but they do accept Medicaid, all other revenues are from grants, fees, and contracts.

There has to be county money put in it. It may go through the social services budget.

Is any revenue brought in from it?

I tried to find the numbers but have yet to find them. I am curious to see the gap between the public transportation budget and the revenue brought in. I know that Ashe is costing more than the revenue brought in.

I knew the rural transit authorities are largely funded by the state, but I thought they were still a county program. But maybe they are not. I do know that in watauga, from what an employee told me, Appalcart doubles as a bus line for students and the county transit authority, and it is a state program.

Oddly enough, I agree. However I did not find ACTA on the county Budget. So this is completely funded by the State DOT. Not that that matters it's still our tax money funding it.

Its not mine or the counties responsibility to haul you around at your command or whim. My advice is you need to make some friends that dont mind hauling you around at your last minute whim.
