So yet another hidden cost. I wonder if that agreement included tying the hands of the county in being able to lease the joint. If the 5 years started when the money was released then it should not be but a year or two left.

When the BOC took the grant money from the state to improve the runway, they signed an agreement to continue funding improvements and operations at the airport for the next 5 years. So do not look for anything to change anytime soon.

Excellent idea.

The 20 or so plane owners are basking in knowing they are getting whatever they want with their landing strip. All the while laughing at the mouth breathers bowing down to them.

Dog - or how about this novel concept......lowering our taxes!

Could have blown the money from the landing strip on another school we dont need.

It's not revisionist history. Carter won because of DNC rule changes after Watergate, Ted Kennedy famously said "Who the &^$% is Jimmy Carter" in 1976. Ted later challenged and weakened Carter during the 1980 election, had Ted not done that Carter might of won in 1980. After Carter lost in 1980 they introduced superdelegates which at the time of their introduction outnumbered the delegates you got from primary voters though today they account for a much smaller proportion and some have suggested doing away with them (particularly the Bernie Sanders wing of the democrat party).

They've already flushed over 10 million dollars on that airport, they'll keep doing it because the papers etc don't call them out for it and not enough people in this county look at the county budget and ask why did we spend that much......

Timmy, do you ever get tired of being wrong?

Posted 5:12 pm, 11/13/2016

I'm not worried about my opinion carrying any merit.. Just calling it as I see it.. The airport is and always will be,

Go register and vote in the next election then start paying taxes, and you opinion may have substance, but I really doubt it Timmy.

It can reach ears all it wants, I don't ever see any changes coming in the way the airport is handled.

Junior, your revisionist history paints a romantic image. But governors are not considered outsiders.

Junior I have a couple of sources that say our concerns over operating that landing strip for just a few people (most not residents) has reached their ears.

Bill Clinton attended school at Georgetown University and actually had several ties to those in DC because of his time there. Though I suppose if you didn't know that you might consider him an outsider. (This was before he attended Oxford or Yale where he met Hillary). He also served as an intern to the Senate and clerk to Senator Fulbright.

Jimmy Carter was never intended to win the nomination for the Democrat party, the Democrat party elites where almost as aghast at his winning in 1976 as the GOP are today with Trump winning. The DNC changed the rules after he lost in 1980 to Reagan weighting the primary election with superdelegates to ensure no outsider would ever win again, and to date their plan has worked.

Ronald Reagan was also at opposition to his party. In fact the GOP in 1980 thought he was going to loose, polls showed he was going to loose up til 3 days before the Election. He won in a landslide largely due to Carter's handling of the economy and Iran hostage situation. He didn't really become the GOP Icon until after he left office.

Oh and as much as Hillary and her cohorts like to blame Comey for their loss, I guess they forgot the FBI did the same in 1992 when George H. W. Bush was President and largely cost him his re election enabling Bill Clinton to win.

I didn't vote for any of the County Commissioners that won, I tried to change it so I guess we'll keep flushing money locally down the airport....

Junior, how do you consider two former governors to be outsiders? And Clinton was also a governor. How is he not an outsider based on your opinion of carter and Reagan?

In the words of Jackie Gleason, When I get how, I'm gonna punch your momma right in the mouth.

Will be interesting to see how the mouth breathers line up. I think we already know. One of these days you idiots will realize that you are not voting for a party and that party is hurting you locally. What you have is a few power hungry individuals making very stupid decisions.

Nope I've seen ads in Philadelphia, Seattle, Los Angeles all along the same lines, you just have to know where to look.

If Trump plans to get anything done he'll have to rely on people that know what's going on in Washington. Reagan did the same thing when he took office and so did Carter, the last two outsiders to win the White House.

In his 30 plus years of Public Life the only thing Trump has remained consistent on is his opposition is to trade deals like NAFTA, CAFTA and the TPP. So the TPP is pretty much dead, however he probably can't pull out of NAFTA and the others without congressional approval and the GOP only has a bare majority so I think that unlikely.

Of his other primary campaign promises.

Build a Wall, was passed during the Reagan administration, never funded, was passed in W's administration never funded. Thus it's already law just Congress in both parties refuse to fund it, and the House has power over the purse. Since I think it unlikely the House and Senate pass funding for it, there are other options after all the President could put a division of Army or Marines on the border and close it. Though whether he'd do that I don't know.

Blocking immigration from hostile countries (terrorist) is already law, passed in 1952 under the Eisenhower administration. The last President to actually use it, Jimmy Carter when he banned immigration from Iran's Shia Muslims in 1979. It was later lifted by Ronald Reagan when the hostages were freed. Thus there is precedent and he'd be within the rights given to block such immigration, however if Congress truly doesn't want him to do that they just have to repeal the 1952 law giving the authority.

Tax Reform, can only be reformed if Congress approves of it, Obama mentioned he wanted Tax Reform in 2008 never got it, even with Democrat majorities in the House and Senate his first 2 years. There is no guarantee Trump can get it either, while he himself is not beholden to those that benefit the most from the current tax system, the Representatives and Senators are beholden to them.

Trump has long had a reputation of fighting for equal rights. In fact it was he that sued in Florida to force the Golf Association there to allow coloreds to golf at association courses. He also received a medal commemorating his dedication along with Rosa Parks and Mohammad Ali. No one ever really questioned or called him racists until he ran for President because the media and Democrats call almost any GOP candidate racists, whether it's true or not and their sheep follow obediently.

As for LGBT marriage Trump has said that was more properly left up to the states and since there is no federal authority over marriage in Article I Section 8 he is correct. However that doesn't mean policy will change. Contrary to popular belief the SCOTUS does not have final say in what is constitution and neither does the Federal government. Since that power is not ascribed to the Federal government then it is up to the people and states. However there is a longstanding precedent that the SCOTUS has final say and it is always hard to remove conventional wisdom even if it is incorrect. Largely I see no change in LGBT status while Trump is president, the only change would be his administration is less likely to go after magistrates who refuse to marry LGBT people.

I'm not saying Trump's perfect. I do believe though there is a far greater likelihood Congress will check him like they are suppose to than they would ever have checked Hillary. Sure if she had won they'd keep their little smoke and mirror investigations going just to try to rally the base, but to date they've not brought charges against anyone for anything since they last charged Bill Clinton but failed to remove him from office. Truth is most of them are just as neck deep in it as the ones they are investigating and the reason these things don't go anywhere is they'd have to tip their own corruption. (I'm not a big fan of Trey Gowdy and several other GOP that some like, I see their wagging the dog for what it is....)

You liberals would have loved it if Trump filled his cabinet with persons unknown to government. Hes only beginning to show you how smart he is. Remember the words "you're fired". Mull that over.
