TN still has elected constables to serve civil papers. The Barney’s are serving criminal papers. He will probably end up shooting someone else.

They were only letting him serve papers or guard a door.

It’s because of morons like Clive that I knew there would never be a conviction. I don’t hate law enforcement. But I do hate any of them that are cowards on power trips and have anger problems. I expected Not Guilty. When Shatley was drinking which was most of the time from what I heard wasn't it true, he was hateful and threatening to a lot of people? I heard that If he wasn't shot in this altercation, it may have been a matter of time before he ended up hurting someone? Which is sad for everyone.

Ask about how many times LEO's and EMS were dispatched because of his drunkeness in the last year. Over 50 times. I was warned about him when he was looking at land next to mine.

Cliven, you've got it all wrong. Hoppy was out of control, hot headed and multiple law suits waiting to happen. Ashe County will be paying out on the civil case, on Hoppy's behalf, in the not to distant future. We'll see if Hoppy lands a legitimate LEO job any time soon.

All I can say is AWESOME!! I have sat here on the side lines watching the comments for months from a bunch of cop hating. law bashing, lawyer wanna be's. I would love to buy most of you for what are worth and sell you for what you think you are worth. Law Enforcement officers have more guts in their little toes than ya'll have in your entire, pathetic bodies. Thank God this is over and ya'll can now be mad about other trivial things...Such as billboards, Hege, K-9's, or any other daily topics. Get a life!

The case was designed to fail. I never thought the murder charge would stick. I was hoping the assault charge might hold up.

The law is very LEO friendly. It says a LEO only has to think he is in danger to use deadly force. It’s hard to get any conviction in these cases. The law doesn’t consider the LEOs competence or cowardice. However the protection of th law does not exempt from negligence that affects civil cases. A conviction would have made the civil case easier, but it will still be paid.

Even so the lawsuit remains to be settled. It will be at least 500 thousand.
