There seems to be a very slow moving echo in the room.

What the heck?? Just read this thread and the minutes from the ACBOC meeting. Why did the Board allow the County Manager (Yearick from Helton) to commit Ashe County tax dollars prior to voting on it at a board meeting? Was a commissioner (perhaps Poe from Helton where Yearick and Sullivan are both from) in on this from the start? Is not giving giving tax dollars to an independent contractor with the county who "won" a bidding contest some type of conflict of interest by Yearick and the Board? Tax payers should look at it as his bid is actually $4000.00 direct Ashe County Dollars higher than what was submitted--how is this fair to Poe or anyone else who submitted a bid? This does not include the grant from North Carolina funded by tax dollars paid directly and indirectly by Ashe County taxpayers. How is any of these back room tactics fair to Ashe County taxpayers??? Why are the commissioners NOT raising questions about what is happening, why is it happening, how is it being permitted to happen? I personally have no bone to pick with Sullivan and/or Poe over this matter but, when it comes to the County Manager giving special treatment to his buddies in such an expensive manner with our tax dollars I will take issue with that!! If Sullivan is such a wise businessman, why did he expect the county and state to foot the bill for his building?? Why did he not make this known up front in his bid to the commissioners?? Why was the County Manager allowed to assist him in obtaining county tax dollar commitment prior to a public vote on the issue by the commissioners? Truly it is time for the board to go and perhaps for the new County Manager as well!

They took five patients to Winston the other day from ashe memorial. Probably take around three or four hours to turn each trip.

Watauga has more calls going on than ashe. I doubt they will have much spare time over there. A lot of times the watauga rescue squad has to fill in to help the ambulance service with calls

No one has bad mouthed the service. The price of a ride has been mentioned and the owners have been discussed not the service. I said at the beginning of this that 3 units are needed with all the out of county travel. Where he owns watauga they may can help out on that side of the county if the need arises.

There will be three units 24/7, all full time employees will be paramedics, some part time may be intermediate or basic level but there will always be a paramedic on the truck and that means the truck will always be paramedic level. They will bring the best care possible to the citizens of ashe county, even those who don't appreciate the service.

Ashe Medics will employ three ambulance crews, Sullivan said, with at least one paramedic on each truck. "Ideally we'll have two, but sometimes hiring and scheduling makes that difficult," Sullivan said.
